Modern Urban Living in a 2x20ft Shipping Container Home

One container contains the bedroom, bathroom and an impressive walk-in-style wardrobe, while the other houses the kitchen and living room. The two containers are joined by an undercover area which shelters a large outdoor lounge and dining space. This is an impressive design!

The home has an undeniable industrial look thanks to the containers which have been largely left unaltered from their days at sea. The exterior celebrates their history, with the painted shipping numbers still exposed, yet stepping inside, the interior quickly feels like a true home, softened with modern, cosy design. Germaine perfectly describes her shipping container home's style as being soft-industrial.

It never ceases to amaze me how shipping containers in all their industrial glory can be transformed into such welcoming and comfortable homes.

We hope you enjoy the full tour of this brilliant shipping container home.

It will always amaze me how people can transform shipping containers into such beautiful homes. When looking at a shipping container, essentially an industrial tool, there’s nothing about it that should make us think of anything that resembles the notion of home. And yet, people can take these metal boxes and transform them into the most wonderful abodes. Modern, comfortable and cosy, Germaine’s container home is a perfect example of this. We hope you enjoy the tour! With Love, Bryce & Rasa

Gosh, that part about her saying she wanted to prioritise her mental health and have something sustainable that was completely under her control, I felt that on a level I didn't know I had.

Probably the best design using shipping containers I’ve seen. The space used for the storage is a clever use of her extensive wardrobe providing an acoustic barrier to the road noise. 👍

Love that Germaine is near her family yet maintaining her privacy. It’s a beautiful home. Love the retro fridge. Beautiful view of the city. Her front porch is lovely for family/friends gatherings. Love these container homes. Thanks Bryce and Rasa for sharing 🫶🏽❤️❤️

This is perhaps the first shipping container home I've seen that feels open and sunlight-filled; the interior white-colored paint helps with that, but so too do the windows Germaine has strategically placed throughout the structure. Privacy appears to be another benefit to this abode: From the street, it looks inhospitable and cold, but, again, the interior is cozy. This "Living Big in a Tiny House" episode has given me inspiration to explore ideas surrounding shipping homes; the $128, 000 USD cost she paid is reasonable for the stellar result. Great video!

I wish she had addressed what is under her container. It looks like a separate unit that could be rented. If that is the case, then what a great way to maximize a small lot. The fact that she didn't have to do significant earth work and was able to just place them on an existing carport makes this so much more economical.

I came for the Tiny Home, but Germain has such a nice, genuine energy. This created a warm, wholesome dynamic between you, resulting in an episode that felt more personal than others. Wishing Germain all the best in her new life!

That was really cool, but I've got to admit, I really wanted to look at the part underneath the home too. That looked fascinating and very clever use of the sloping land.

❤ being able to lock in the house next door when you've lived in a good neighborhood for so long is amazing🤗

Happy she considered her well being and healing but still kept her kids just as important. I could never move away from my sons just to be free. Some people give up one or the other but clearly you can have both. Congrats Germaine. I have 2 sons and your story and home are inspiring.

Loved the fact that she sacrificed space for a walk-in closet lol I would definitely build around a space for my clothes and shoes 😊

At first I saw the video and said 'oh yeah, another shipping container' but I was so pleasantly surprised. What a wonderful, warm yet clean and sleek place. Love it!

Such a wonderful set up for Germaine! Beautiful kitchen, cozy bedroom, lovely deck with views. Private but right next door is family when you want it. Happy for her that she's independent & has it her way. Great episode.

When she said that the whole bedroom container was designed around her wardrobe, I yelled out 'hell yeah!'. I'm so tired of these tiny homes having storage for maybe 10 pieces of clothing! I too love clothes and shoes. If I need another container for them, so be it! Enough of this minimalist crap. And I love that she pours some champagne or sparkling wine with her meal! I want to be her neighbor! LOL!
