I live in a 15 minute city and it is awful...

...ly nice

The "15 minute city" or "walkable community" is a current boogeyman for some, for me it's my daily life. Let's look around and see if it is as terrible as it sounds.

This isn't meant to imply that China is perfect and USA is terrible. Or that USA has no walkable communities and China only has them... it's mainly just to highlight the insanity of people who are anti 15 minute cities. Thanks

Thank you for any support offered, monetary or otherwise.

The propaganda here in the US is overwhelming once you notice it.

15 minute city? You mean a normal city everywhere in the world except the US?

For eight years, I've been living in a 15-min dystopian nightmare.

Restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets, delivery points, tram, bus, metro, gyms, badminton halls, swimming pools, parks, and libraries all within a 15-min walk from me.

Truly the seventh circle of hell.

Just imagine not having a city filled to the brim with traffic. Without congestion, noise pollution. With space for community to return to your local area. For people to meet and talk without sitting in metal boxes for a fifth of their life. Truly an awful idea.

As a Greek who walked or cycled to school (even pre-school), I was so fascinated by the concept of a "soccer mom" when I first heard the term. I was like, "what is this mythical creature?"

i’ve never seen so much satire and irony so concentrated in one place on the internet before 😂

When I was a kid, I grew up in a one hour city. It was going to take at least an hour of walking along busy roads with no shoulder or sidewalk, to get to the closest gas station convenience store. It was truly amazing. I loved never being able to go anywhere unless I could convince my mom to drive me. It was a true paradise.

Now, I am subjecting my child to the 15 minute city hell. He can can walk to school, the skatepark, the stores, the beach, and friends. It's terrible. He wishes he could be stuck on our dead end street with nothing to do, just as he imagines I did as a child. I've truly failed him.

I moved to a city for 7 years to manage a condo building and kept my house in the country. I was glad to move back from the city. The noises, the fear of strangers, the fire trucks, emergency and police vehicles are very noisy. My house is 5 minutes from a small town that has everything we need. Give me the peace and quiet of living away from a city any day. Thanks but no thanks. I will get myself an electric golf cart as my green indicative.

I live in a 15 minute city within Tokyo Japan. There's apartments with everything you need on the 1st floor from grocery shopping, postal service, dry cleaning, restaurants, bakery, chiropractor,

Its exactly like this in the Netherlands, and its sooo terrible. I particularly detest the safety of the separate cycle lanes that allow you to go further than your 15 minute city

Americans thought their single family house devoid of access from outside world is the definition of freedom.

It feels so nice being stuck in the middle of nowhere, unable to get anywhere since there are no sidewalks unless if I have a car. 10/10 Living

i love walking through 4-5 miles of suburbs and then crossing a 5 lane stroad just to go to the grocery store (and for those calling me dramatic, this is literally the closest store to my house)

this is so scary 😭😱 how am I supposed to have a near death experience trying to walk in a community where pedestrians are considered bowling pins?

Life in a properly structured city has robbed me of the opportunity to drive around my gas guzzling SUV while tossing cigarette butts at child pedestrians

Our towns were much like this until the auto & petroleum industries took over America.

Hi, conservative here. I love the idea of walkable cities and I can't understand why a high percentage of conservatives aren't backing these types of projects for their communities (I guess because it was proposed as a "globalist agenda" type of thing cuz if Trump was the guy proposing this another story would be) but man I can't think of anything better for traditional values and stronger towns and communities, making our country beautiful again should be a top conservative objective, I hope people realize that and shift their perspective on this topic.
