Initially in this Surgery Lecture, anatomy of the rectum is explained followed by rectum Blood supply. The signs of the rectal diseases can be investigated via digital rectal examination, proctoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. It can be diagnosed using Clinical Radiology (CT scan) in conjunction with anus inspection and laparoscopy.
One of the rectal conditions is the presence of foreign bodies inside the rectum. Other than this, rectal prolapse is also a medical ailment which has various types viz mucosal and full-thickness prolapse. The later can be treated via perineal or abdominal approach.
Furthermore, rectal evacuation disorder together with intussusception and solitary rectal ulcer syndrome have been described in detail. Another condition termed as proctitis has been discussed which is the Inflammation of the inner rectum. It can occur due to Crohn’s disease and various Infections. In the end, different types of rectal polyps are highlighted.
