This is a lovely take on it - I had never really thought about the positives of adulting and I'm glad you pointed those out, I have been one of those mock-whinging about 'adulting' - not so much laundry and dishes, cos I've graduated from helping with them since I was little to doing them for myself for the past 6 years, but the adulting things that I find hard are the stuff that, no offence, hits you after college/university - finding a job, modifying your expectations of what you thought working life would be like vs the reality, dealing with taxes (nightmare, trust me), and trying to make sure you still have time to do the things that make you happy as well as earning your daily bread. I dunno what it's like in Canada but uni for me was a safe place to explore growing up - moving out, paying own bills, dealing with flatmates and yes, restricting the amount of coffee-shop coffee I buy - without the pressures that come when you're graduated and everyone then expecting you to magically be 'grown up' and 'know what you want to do with your life.' That's the part that I find hard. But I do agree that the basic behaviour of doing things for yourself when you get older and seeing them as the responsibilities that are part and parcel of the privilege of growing up, rather than a doom-laden burden, is a good thing.

Thanks for this Katie! I really needed a wake up call. I'm turning 20 in March and am currently a sophomore in college and I'll be honest, I'm one of those students that just doesn't want to grow up and accept responsibilities. But now, you've encouraged me to go do a load of laundry!!😂 Thanks!
