In this video, I talk about my 1 year Amex Platinum card review for 2022 and whether or not I get enough value from the Amex Platinum card credits. If you are asking, “Is the Amex Platinum worth it?” then this video will be helpful as we go over the things to know about this popular American Express credit card. With many credit cards available today, especially travel credit cards, it can be tough to know if such an expensive card like the Amex Platinum can be good to have. But in my case, as we talk about throughout the video, the Amex Platinum benefits and Amex Platinum credits are very much worth the $695 annual fee!

This video will be more of a personal year long overview of how the American Express Platinum card has played a role in my lifestyle and spending habits over the past year. Hopefully, as I go through this credit card review, you will be able to see why I think the Amex Platinum is one of the best credit cards of 2022!

But while the Platinum card is worth it for me, it might not be worth it for you because we all live different lives and have different ways that we like to spend our money. So feel free to check out any of my other videos below where I compare the Amex Platinum to some other premium travel credit cards.

Recommend mentioning that for active duty members and their spouses, the $695 fee is waived. This is by far the best card I own because of all the benefits and none of the fees. Great overview video.

Had Platinum for 6 years, and I have saved over 9K just by using the card thru by points and travel savings.

I've had the card for 20 years and first bought it when I was traveling over 150 days a year. It's without doubt worth it in that case. That said, if you travel by airplane more than 4 times a year, it's also totally worth it. "Clear" for free, $200 Travel credit, Lounges (which are "nice" in normal conditions but HUGE when a flight is cancelled at the airport) and other smaller perks. IF you travel, you have to have it! Otherwise, kind of a waste of money.

It has been my favorite card I have gotten thus far. Like you I get positive value so “getting paid” for the travel insurance and lounges is great. I have gone on 2 trips in the past year in which the lounges have really been a game changer (priority pass lounge in Istanbul for two 5 hour layovers and the centurion lounge in Denver during a 2.5hr delay with my family). Really does make the worst part of being in an airport enjoyable

Great video I just got the card and I have to say for me is absolutely worth it because, AMEX waived the annual fees for all active duty military. So overall great value for anyone serving 🇺🇸

Solid video man, really appreciate the raw honesty for such a premium card. Personally, I can’t justify the Amex Plat or Gold quite yet like I thought I would months ago. Your insight about not spending the money without the card, it then doesn’t make sense to apply for a card for the credits has been super helpful!

That's what I noticed this past year as well with lounges in general is that they are now even harder to use due to many having shortened or "adjusted" hours. Centurion may not be having these issues but my experience with Priority Pass lounges has been coming across most lounges being closed earlier in the evening or opening later in the morning than what you would expect.

Daniel, I just found out that Amex actually increases the rates for the Fine Hotels & Resorts for Platinum members in return for the $100 credit and other benefits. In one case I realized my stay was going to be $490 greater as a Platinum member than it would be booking as a regular Gold member for example. The math completely does not add-up and they advertise these benefits as being complimentary to Platinum members. This basically cancels out the value of this benefit...I wonder how many people don't realize they are being ripped off.

I have the opposite perspective on lounges in that I refuse to take early morning flights. I see lounges as part of the flying experience, so it’s mandatory for me to eat and drink 3 hours before my flight. If I want to save time on a long flight, I’d rather take an evening flight where I can catch the tail end of the lounge hours and then sleep on the plane

1st off, didn't notice the lack of the lavalier mic in ur last video until you mentioned u got a new mic. AND now u got that Bokeh with the new lens too. 📈 production value just keeps going up.

You can also add a family member or a partner for only $150 a year and have them enjoy all the benefits. Clear, lounges etc. This is my fav card. great honest vid!

Acquired this card and after about a year of use, I can’t justify keeping it. I don’t travel more than 3-5 times by airplane per year, the 1x points on everything do not add up quickly, and it’s fairly easy to not use a majority of the benefits that the card offers. Not for me. Imo if you travel a lot, of course this is an excellent card.

Thanks for the great overview. I think this card makes more sense in the US. Here in the UK it's a struggle to find retailers who will accept it because of the higher transaction fee, and the points and benefits package are different but overall probably less generous

I went ahead and got the American Express Platinum card even though I pretty much knew that I would not meet the $6000 minimum spend. I really wanted the card for the prestige and perks. I figured why spend $6000 to get points for maybe 2 roundtrip airline tickets when I can just buy 2 roundtrip airline tickets for around $600. I view the $695 annual fee as club membership fees and the statuses that it provides. I also added my son and daughters as authorized users. They are college students with Amex platinum cards and when they fly home they get to enjoy the travel perks and statuses. To me that alone was worth the $695 annual fee. Great video.

This video was extremely helpful detailing all the benefits of the card, especially for travel purposes! My wife is from Mexico so we will be flying frequently to visit family down there!

4 year member at $550 p/yr was just about worth it fees but for $695 my take is as follows :
-once your welcome spending multiplier expires Every day spending 1x1 is horrible.
-Few and between monthly promotions.
-All the credit through travel e.g airline and resort credits are basically your annual fee paid up front so not a real perk.
- taking away a guest pass for centurion club visits.
-Amex Plath is basically an expensive coupon book.

Canceled once the $695 went in effect.

Chase sapphire holds more value IMHO.

Glad I watched this. The remark about Centurion Lounge charging for any additional guests is a deal breaker for me. Also the limited, expensive options for the hotel credit. That’s a tough sell for $700. The credits for like Equinox and Wal Mart Plus are too specific.

I just got it on a whim yesterday as I saw they increased points to 150k. Came here to confirm I made the right decision. Thanks for the video.

If you combine the clear credit with a United or Delta frequent flyer membership you can get the base membership for $120, and then an additional person on that membership is $60. Two for the price of one.

Can’t wait to see what kind of retention offer they give you! Great video as always Daniel!
