Is the Amex Platinum card worth $695? #shorts

If you're able to manage and remember to use all of the benefits that the Platinum offers, then I'd say you're instead getting paid by Amex by getting this card.

Are these benefits worth it for you? Or are you traveling so much that you'd forget to utilize all these benefits?

it’s all about if you were already going to spend that money on those things before you had the card

As a frequent traveler… this card is a god send. And I save so much money on food in airports and sitting down between layovers and before flights is taxing on my back with my bags since it’s heavy and sitting comfortably is super important to me. I will be traveling most of this month domestically and internationally and this card is already helping me out- I have clear and global entry. I have lounge access.

This is a life saver for someone in a rush and doing business and leisure travel. Thank you Amex for having people like us in mind.

All depends on the individual. I only travel a few times a year but I navigate the credits well and put alot of weight on the lounge and upgrade statuses I tend to get at hotels so for me it’s worth it. For anyone who doesn’t live in a big city, probably won’t make sense considering Uber and lounge is a big part of the upside.

I’m good with my gold card. It fits my lifestyle of dining and occasional travel. Platinum has way too many incentives that I would never use. It also seems like a card for people that make 6 figures or more per year. The card depends on the salary and lifestyle of the person.

Ya’ll forgot cell phone protection and purchase protection too! I got both my iPhone fixed and Amex paid me back 🤩🤩😝😝 and 5x points back on certain purchases. So happy to be traveling first class with my hubby from all the Mr points we’ve earned. This and the gold card….now the gold is worth every single penny 🤩🤩🤩

Really just if you travel a lot. Some of the credits are dubious because because an annual subscription would be cheaper than going the monthly route. Example: that $155 Walmart+ credit (must be paid monthly) really only has a $98 value because that’s how much an annual subscription actually costs.

I have both, and flex between them. Probably not the best use, but the Reserve card is best for me overall, except the lounges. While AMEX lounges are great, the few Sapphire Reserve lounges are excellent.

It was tempting, but i would spend more money if i got equinox (membership prices are insane lol), spend more with streaming services I don’t have (i use scribd for audiobooks), probably not use the airline fees. Ultimately I’d be spending more for everything! This seems to be tailored for specific people. Went for the gold card instead :)

I have been a member for 35 years. I had the basic green card for many years and I upgraded to the Gold Card recently. They have offered me the platinum many times but I just don’t want to pay seven hundred bucks a year for that. Even the $250 fee for the Gold Card is pretty outrageous.

Welp time to buy a house close to an equinox gym, let me make sure it’s close to a Walmart as well

I travel close to weekly and the lounge has changed my life. I max out on all the food/coffee and don't spend anymore in the terminals. Plus all the rewards. My fav card ever.

Shouldve made it clear that these credits only matter if you were ALREADY spending money on these things

I fly internationally a lot to visit family and have used the card for business expenses, flight benefits including lounges, hotels, and car rentals. No foreign transaction fees, concierge services that work with locals when abroad. The long layovers at airports with priority pass makes this card worth it for me alone.

Amex also has excellent customer service and transaction protections not to mention the card is recognized everywhere except for small businesses that can’t afford the surcharges Amex cards usually impose on retailers.

Lifestyle creep is real so I recommend you have the income to justify using this card.

Think about it. $695 is guaranteed they going to get from you. But all those benefits are not guaranteed you can get something out of them. Sometimes you forget or simply can’t use the credits

I mean it’s hit or miss with the platinum. Sure you get access to the lounges, but the lounges are overcrowded still—even with the guest policy. My discover does it for me as far as travel goes. Amex offered me the platinum card and having never had Amex I took it. If I could change anything I would’ve gotten the gold card instead.

I used mine to take my family of four into the lounge in Lima Peru for free. It would have been over $400 without that perk. We used clear credit, $200 hotel credit, and Hilton gold status upgrade which gave us free drinks and breakfast buffet everyday of our 7 night stay. Not to mention the 100k points which was worth close to $1k depending on how you use them. Totally worth it out the gate. May not be worth it in subsequent years. It’s something to really think about.

I love my platinum card. Looking at the centurion card but that 5k annual fee is insane.

The $150 credit towards the annual fee if you have a corporate card, makes it way easier to break even

I looked deeply into this and thought about getting it to build more credit. With that said, those places have a deal with AE and we’re made to believe we’re saving money, kind of, but AE isn’t losing taking the cut, the businesses and the card users.

I don't have Equinox in my town nor travel enough to use their facilities. I got it for the Centurion lounge access at my local airport, Walmart, Disney+ with no ads, CLEAR, Global Entry, Uber Eats, phone insurance, and Car rental CDW insurance (will save me $170.00 in Amsterdam. I always get CDW "just in case" 💩 happens).
