Amex Platinum Card - 13 Things You MUST DO

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video, we’re looking at Amex Platinum Card benefits to show what you must do to get the most value out of one of the most popular American Express credit cards. This credit card has a $695 annual fee, but numerous Amex Platinum credits and other benefits can help to justify that price. So if you’re wondering, “Is the Amex Platinum worth it?” then this video will be the perfect guide to the benefits that answer this question!

The Amex Platinum Card is arguably one of the best travel credit cards out there, but that expensive annual fee means that it won’t be a credit card that’s worth it for everyone. That’s why it’s so important to understand the credits and benefits that come along with the American Express Platinum Card so that you don’t end up losing money after paying that $695 fee. We’ll cover things like the $240 digital entertainment credit, the $200 Uber credit, the $200 airline credit, the $200 Hotel credit, airport lounge access, and much more!

Make sure that you actually do value these credits on the Amex Platinum, and then take that value and subtract it from the annual fee. This will give you an “effective annual fee” estimate that’s a more accurate picture of the out of pocket net annual cost to you. Then that estimate can be used to decide if other Amex Platinum benefits like airport lounge access, hotel status, and other travel benefits are worth it. Not everyone is going to need the Amex Platinum Card, but hopefully this Amex Platinum review will be useful as a guide to helping you get the most out of it if you do have it!

A couple of quick notes that I didn't get to mention in the video:

1. WiFi for the airline credit will not always code as an airline purchase, so it won't always be eligible for reimbursement. It varies from airline to airline and the type WiFi system used by the plane you're on, so do a little research before using the credit this way!

2. A Walmart+ membership will now include a complimentary Paramount+ subscription beginning in September 2022. So maybe more of a reason for people to sign up and use the Walmart+ credit on their Amex Platinum card since all of this will be covered by the credit.

For those with a local Saks fifth avenue store nearby, you can buy a $50 gift card twice a year and then save up for something better :) can’t buy a gift card online for credit apparently so won’t be useful for all.

If you're in the military you don't have to pay the annual fee so that has come in clutch for me plus the benefits is perfect especially since I travel a lot too

For anybody on the fence… for me, the lounge access in and of itself is worth it for the yearly fee. It completely changes traveling when you’ve been used to traveling without it. Makes a much more enjoyable experience.

Taking the time to run through how much value you get vs. the $695 fee is crucial with this card (plus the sanity factor of keeping track of the credits…I mean coupons) 😂👌 Excellent rundown of how we need to ENROLL in these benefits in order to use them.

Here's a "bonus" that may make the Walmart+ credit useful. I'm not near a Walmart and don't order anything from them BUT you can get 10 cents off at certain gas stations like Mobil, Exxon and Murphy using WM+. That might help those who don't have cards returning more for gas purchases.

#14) if you have a corporate AMEX card from your employer, please use the corporate advantage, which will give you a $150 statement credit and a 545 effective annual fee right off the bat.

With that high AF its important to take advantage of every single penny you can to offset that fee. There's great deals to be found in the offer section as along as your purchase is organic and you're not just spending just because.. Great video Daniel!

This card is truly packed with benefits if you use it correctly. Anyone that has a platinum card needs to watch this. One day I’ll get my own but with my current travel habits it doesn’t make too much sense yet. I’m looking forward to it though! Great video as always Daniel.

The Platinum is my favorite card and Fine Hotels and Resorts is my favorite benefit.

Global Dining Acces by Resy can get you into sold out Restaurants or the table that you want at that restaurant. And the concierge service has done a lot of leg work that I didn't want to or couldn't do.

Just last month, having Hilton and Marriott Gold status got me into a Deluxe Suite at the Waldorf Astoria and an Executive Suite at the Ritz Carlton

You can't put a price on those

My friend and I have United as our chosen airline and we both have been able to trigger the credit by using the plat to put money into our travel banks. We broke it up into 2 $100 transactions and it worked like a charm

Don’t sleep on the Walmart+ benefit! It will include a Paramount+ subscription benefit starting in Sept which will add so much more value to it now.

I think my my favorite benefit is the automatic Hilton Gold status. I recently had a work trip over 100 days and received over 200, 000 bonus points and diamond status 😍

Also, for airline employees, the platinum is still useful even though we fly free most of the time! If you book ZED fares on another airline and pay the small fee, that is reimbursed. So the credit effectively covers price of tickets for airline employees. If you use the others it still ends up being profitable to own this card

To many, this card is a waste of money. To us credit card lovers, this card is amazing if you are strategic with it. You can easily get your money back if you travel twice a year, if you do it right. Love my platinum card and won’t be canceling it anytime soon. Great Video, Daniel

I got over $500 of value from one three day trip to a hotel collection resort, $200 airline credit plus $200 hotel credit from Amex plus a $100 credit from the hotel towards the spa, plus 3 days of room upgrades worth maybe $50-70 per night? Pretty darn good, more or less covered the entire annual fee right there in one trip.

Great video summarizing the benefits.

Since I see a lot of people here asking for advise about whether they should get the card, I thought I'd post my unbiased thoughts too as someone who has had the card for a couple of years now. Personally, I don't think the benefits justify the cost, and I also previously had the Chase Sapphire Reserve, so I understand what a good travel card is for my circumstances.

When I called in to get the Amex card cancelled because I wasn't getting enough out of it, they listed all these benefits that I used as the 'value' I got from the card which surpassed the annual cost. While technically that is true, I define value as benefits I get that I truly want/need. For example, I got a cologne from Saks Fifth that I didn't need but I just did it since the window was ending. In Amex's eyes, I got $50 value here but if I didn't have the card, I wouldn't have got it. Or I got the Disney+ bundle but I never really use it. Also, in my opinion, some of the other benefits are just smoke screens - the centurion lounges where I've been are always closed, full, or have extremely limited hours, and the remaining priority pass ones have specific admission times for priority pass users. Don't get me started on how restrictive the airline credit is, and last I checked, Chase points are worth more. Also, as someone who travels internationally quite a bit, I think it is ridiculous how it is called a travel card but is barely accepted in other countries and I end up using my non-travel Visa card and pay foreign transaction fees way too often.

Still, overall it does depend on your individual circumstances and where you spend your money.

That Walmart+ benefit is actually pretty cool as you get $0.05/gallon discounted right at the pump at Murphy gas stations along with $0.10/gallon discounted right at the pump at Mobil/Exxon gas stations, and have access to Sam’s Club fueling stations!

You can switch your Audible account to the 2 credit per month plan, it’s only $23 so you would only an extra $3 after the Amex perk

Good work Danny. It really is all about the credits and whether or not you can offset the fee and then some. You've made another good point in past videos in that you shouldn't have to "force spend" to earn the credits. if what the issuer offers doesn't suit you, the card just isn't for you, and that's okay. It's a good reason by the Platinum Card doesn't do it for me.

Excellent work, as usual.
