As leaders, it might be our first instinct to make our voice heard early and often. Great leaders know, however, that reserving your opinion until the end of the meeting will give your employees the space they need to generate creative ideas.

I think the bit about biasing the room is so true! More junior people might be scared to speak up if you've already said what you think and if their opinion differs. This way you're getting in much more diverse input and it makes your life easier as well because you can hear a wider range of opinions to then consolidate a solution from.

I would like to ask everyone here to pray for our home and our people here in South Africa.
A revolution is starting and mass looting and destruction of malls and shopping centers, all for a fight to release a criminal with 700+ cases against his name from prison.
We fear for what will happen next and we need the prayers from everyone around the world to ask God to save this once beautiful country.
I thank you all kindly. God bless!

I may not know you personally, but I believe in you my friend! 🙏

This is really great feedback... As a leader, I always feel obligated to set the tone or frame the situation, but by doing so I never realized that I'm creating a bias. Thanks!

Great advice. This last-to-speak approach will also make more room up front for the less vocal team members to get into the conversation. It gives the leader the opportunity to say, "Dale, what do you think?" or more subtle nonverbal invitations to get quiet people talking like welcoming eye contact.

The last to speak but not the one who always needs the last word.

So many things Simon Sinek says have deep & resounding meaning for me. Be careful how you bias the room, and practice being the last to speak.

This dude's a gem. I remember first watching a video of him a few years ago talking passionately about something with another fellow in a chair opposite. Seems like a very bright dude, Simon

Yes, great advice. PLUS as the leader use Pass to the Right: everyone in turn gets 60 seconds to speak uninterrupted, starting with the person on leader’s right. A powerful little technique: elicits everyone’s opinion / ideas, fosters sense of inclusion AND promotes psychological safety through ‘equal voice’.

It is truly amazing that most of us walk this planet Earth, being a fraction of what we are capable of being.

This is so true Simon. It takes a lot of humility to be the last to speak...
As a leader, It brings more respect on the table, for both you and your followers.

The last to speak will have the last word as well. Which is nice.

SIMON you are such a great leader as well... and i love your HUMILITY by the way.
Best advice I've heard in a long time and that i try to replicate on a daily basis for a few years 🙏🏻
There is also the underlying idea to tame the EGO... isn't it ?

That's very true when leading a team I always ask so what do you all think. Just to get a feel or a vibe for where their mindset is. Most of the time I have better idea's. But I do take parts from others and thank them for their input. And they feel appreciated which makes them work harder.

*Most people sit around and wait for inspiration, just some rare people get up and get to work.*

This is great insight! Listening is so much harder than speaking. We should all practise this habit

Wow Simon, I need to learn to shut up and speak last. The perspective changes when it's your time to speak. 🙏
