BRITISH BIAS MADE HIM DO IT! Opinions on the Fallout of the Mexican GP Penalties

'British Bias' is a response that is hilarious and boring in equal measure. "You can't have an opinion you have the same nationality" is the F1 Twitter version of 'no u', and it seems that social media shouting amplifies what is going on. It's like people are such fans of an individual or a team that the guy they support or team they support can't do anything wrong or is immune from criticism.

So, with all the allegations of British Bias coming out after the Mexican and US Grands Prix, let's see what's what with all this and it might turn out that there was no bias after all...

Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

You only need two stewards, Kimi and Seb. Kimi handles all communication

There are no drivers from my country, and I like Max. So my bias is...
He needs to calm the hell down.

Thing is, if Max is allowed to do this, then it's only fair they all drive in the same style. What a mess F1 would become.

They need to bring back drive throughs for some of the moves being pulled

It's not bias, it's calling out a dirty driving.

As an online racing regular, I've always hated the idea of someone driving in a manner that has zero intent of making the corner.

If you're making or defending a move, you're responsible for ensure that both cars survive the corner. So are they.

There's nuance in that both drivers should understand when the move is done and to concede, and know how to conduct themselves in a way that makes that clear.

Everyone has a bias, makes me laugh that Max fans don’t think they have theirs.

I am Argentine and although I have visited the United Kingdom at some time, I do not believe I have British bias credentials. However, I believe that if a driver does what Verstappen did to Norris he should be sanctioned. What's more, I think that if instead of a few seconds the sanction had been a stop and go, it would also be appropriate.

It was annoying and grating when Fernando did it, it's annoying and grating when Max does it. I'm not British

It only takes seconds for Max or his fans to play that card…..

I'm completely bored of debating F1 with "fans". It's become like football or politics where you're either a friend or an enemy and there's no grey area for debate despite the grey areas being the reason for the debate in the first place. I think a good place to start in terms of avoiding adding fuel to the bias fire is to make the stewards anonymous to the public, no one is ever truly neutral but at least that way people can't start making up their own little stories about who is affiliated with who.

The problem is that people are completely unable to use reason and nuace to look at a situation.

I saw someone the other day saying Michael got made out to be the villian by the british media the other day because he beat british drivers. And its like... yes, that is partly true. However the main reason he was made out to be the villian is because HE WAS THE VILLIAN. His first titles were at a team that is generally considered to have been cheating (Benneton). He drove into Hill to crash him out in order to win his first world title (which was somewhat debatable at the time, but hindsight shows that absolutely the correct opinion). He tried to crash into JV to try and win his third world title, over which there is no debate.

Its the same deal with Max. Yes, I'm sure the british media wouldn't be fans of his because he beats british drivers. But the main reason they go in on him is because he consistant drives like a complete asshole with regard for anyone else on the track and is utterly unrepenant about it.

Then theres lack of nuace. Just using the last race as an example, the turn 4 move is not the same as the turn 7 move. Ironically, the stewards for some reason gave Max points for the former and not the latter, which in itself is baffling, because whilst forcing you rival off when entitled to space and not leaving the track is bad, forcing your rival off the track and not even attempting to stay on the track is far worse (and frankly, it looked very much like he was attempting to put Lando into the wall [as Lando himself noted at the time] but since that doesn't seem to have been followed up on it must just be my bias showing).

But mostly, the voices that slam media bias are Max fans that are themselves inherently biased which is showed fairly clearly when they try to argue its ok for Max to not slow down enough to make a corner in order to be ahead at the apex, but then say turn 4 shouldn't be a penalty because Lando didn't slow down enough to make the corner in order to be ahead at the apex. (I know he almost certainly was going to make the corner, because different lines are a thing and the "telemetry" data is a bad faith argument devoid of any context, but thats a whole different post).

I tend to find that 'British bias' is code for 'Stop saying truthful things we don't like hearing', goes well beyond F1. 🤷‍♂️

It's that 'whoever gets at the apex first owns the corner' rule that's ruining things in my opinion.
Yes, you might be first on the apex, but there's another car on the outside (or inside), you can't just take the corner like they don't exist.
This rule basically makes overtaking from the outside impossible, because everyone can do a Verstappen and just send it from the inside.
It's just inexcusably dirty.
I think if a car is more than halfway alongside another at corner exit they need to be left some space.

If I had a pound for every time I have seen someone proclaim "British Bias" on the internet, I'd be richer than the Haas F1 team.

Love everyone calling out this British bias meme. It’s been false from the beginning. Max just drives like a bellend.
