How The British Bias is KILLING Formula 1

Formula 1 and many other sports are highly British-dominant, which does not have to be a problem. The actual problem is them being a global broadcaster, spreading their bias towards their own country's drivers and openly hating on others.

This fuels another problem: social media. It already has a lot of negativity, hate, and fake news. We don’t need this being fueled by a global broadcaster that needs to advocate for the sport, not discredit it.

The British bias has always been horrible on sky sports

I can confirm that italian media even while being Ferrari-centric is nowhere near this bad

They do have their in-house coverage which comes from F1 pro, despite most commentators there also being British, I can't feel their bias as much as Sky. Was a total game changer for me and I simply ignore whatever Sky spews out.

I have to watch the sky sports broadcast here in the US and it’s awful. Martin Brundle clearly hates Ferrari and has never said a positive thing, no matter what happens. The British drivers and cars are always blameless.

We in austria on the other hand have ServusTV and ORF1 the latter being a channell from the gouverment, it is very neutral and has some of the best commentators ever. Alexander Wurz and Ernst Hausleitner, both are amazing aswell as the team behind them. There is no such thing as hatred or bias and i love it.

Im indian and hate the sky broadcast which we get here. As tine has progressed, the bias is just unbearable now. Crofty has absolutely lost it. He's a prick. And brundle as well but to a lesser extent.

Being a fan of F1 for over 50 years, over the past 10 years the broadcasting has been ruining the sport, the pundits & experts at SKY are the issue. Stewards bias is another issue, should not be allowed more than 1 British steward at any race. I hate Hamilton, not because of him, because of the pundits & experts, he can do no wrong. There has always been a bias in F1 & it has always ruined amazing races or a season. Ayrton deserved more wins & championships, French bias. Max came along & challenged him & Max is the dirty driver, when clearly we could see it was the other way. End Hate, end the bias F1. I just want an amazing race to watch without the pundits & experts saying British is better than the rest. Is Formula 1 actually wanting a global market or a British market? Sky sports needs to go & the British bias if they want global. I have not enjoyed F1 like I used to with this current sky sports British bias.

Man you have earned my respect.
Tbh i noticed this problem in 2020 when Hamilton was on the way of winning his 7th wdc and i though initially i m paranoic but this was actually real day and day on from 2021 and is still today.
I also observed it in 1994-1996 Schumacher VS Hill rivalry, every of this country mass media source was talking all day long about Schumacher s dirty move in Adelaide 94 but none of these independent and objective journalists haven t said a word about Hill doing the same in 95 and 96, Hill hitting Schumacher like a lunatic …
Today big problem is that f1 official channel and main sources belongs to this country and are having a huge culture of biasing their drivers and making their drivers rival look like devil itself.
Hamilton won 80% of his glory in seasons suffering lack of competition, with a higher developed car which made his job to win as easy as possible but for these achievements you can t put him above Fangio, Senna, Schumacher, Clark, Prost, Surtees, Ascari, Lauda, because he had too many easy tasks and too many advantages to claim such things … this thing can t be accepted by newer fans, they are young and influenceable because all these sources are very popular so when they see on social media all these biasing him, they think he is actually that good, they think this is the reality… even now when Norris won at 20 sec gap over Verstappen, these sources posted on social media how great that driver is and how titanic his work was to do such thing … but up until Spain 2024 this was a random thing Verstappen was doing …. This is toxicity and they will destroy this sport continuing this way …

Dutch bias is insane unfortunately. You can't watch Dutch broadcasting properly if you're not a Verstappen fan.

F1 should just use a variety of broadcasts for official content and not just Sky

6:31 Spa is a low-downforce track. The upgrades were for high-downforce tracks like Hungaroring or Singapore

I despise the monopoly Sky Sports have on Formula One broadcasting

As Colombian, the issue is just from some people, example, inside the teams, as Ron Dennis in McLaren, who had a distaste for all non anglo drivers, like Alonso, Montoya, even disliked Senna's way of doing things. Regarding coverage, the Latin American commentators (Tornello, López, Fosarolli, Fábrega and Puente and Fazzini in the past) are very open and loving to all drivers, Asian, British, etc.

The meat riding on lando norris is especially annoying me, because the f1 instagram is posting things like "domination" for him leading all the laps, and every other post having something to do with him, its like they're manufacturing something for him to win the WDC so people don't stop watching because they're his fans

I completely agree with your analysis, and somehow I feel like it got like 10x worse this year. Maybe its because there are now 3 british drivers competing for wins but man there were so many instances where it was quite a complicated situation and the skysports commentators are just instantly "yeah HIS FAULT HES SO CHILDISH" or whatever and not even waiting for the replay to come in to actually see what happened

Some of the Sky Spirts F1 commentary around Oscar Piastri has been borderline disgusting.

His brilliant pass on Norris at Monza was labelled as "reckless" and "too close to the edge" and the team needed to consider team orders to stamp out the scourge of good, clean racing

Piastri was labelled "disloyal" for defying team orders that McLaren said, over and over, did NOT exist, like he somehow owes Lando something for... reasons.

They even went to the extent of challenging Oscar in the post-race media pen when Natalie Pinkham asked whether his pass was something he'd reconsider if he had that time over again, instead of congratulating him on an excellent overtake.

He came as close to annoyance as I've seen him come so far with a curt *"I thought it was a good pass"* in response.

The commentary team then ran with this by questioning whether he'd "cost" the team 1-2 by "divebombing" Lando.

Nobody raised the possibility that the responsibility laid with Lando, nor whether Lando could have done a better job defending the racing line. Not only did they not challenge Lando's assertions that (he later withdrew) that the pass was "dangerous", they ran with it as a narrative and a line of questioning of both Zac Brown and Andrea Stella.

It became clear that this wasn't so much a legitimate line of questioning as an attempt to manipulate results by putting pressure on McLaren to institute team orders in Lando's favour.

Making a racing driver a villain for the crime of racing was some of the most absurd garbage that I have ever seen and was the final nail in the coffin of my respect for their commentary.

I highlight Oscar Piastri because his racing and conduct in F1 has, thusfar, been utterly impeccable. Yet Sky have taken issue with it.

It shows that they aren't just biased, they are actively demanding teams work to manufacture results that they demand.

After Sao Paolo it's unfortunately become apparent that this media bias is starting to spread to the officiating crew. And THAT is an even larger problem than ignoring half of what the broadcast says.
