Hey everybody, I hope these exercises are helpful to you. If you've been doing them, and you've noticed improvements in your playing and technique, let me know! I'd love to hear about any "success stories"! 😀👍

Here's my guitar workout:
- 5mn on my actual guitar
- 2 hours watching people explaining how to play

#4 practice playing unplugged at night in pitch darkness. This is incredibly important as it forces you to trust your hands not your eyes.

Its also incredibly useful because u never know what stage lighting will be like at a gig.

I can't tell u how many times im on stage and some soundguy us trying to be creative and cut off the Damn lights...

Hey man, I feel obliged to say this. Before I found this video I was a shit guitarist. Two months ago I started each of these exercises. I made a comment at that time (later deleting it) where I vowed to take this practice seriously. Every morning with coffee, without fail. Using a metronome and a desire to make things sound as clean and precise as possible, I have mastered each exercise. Even the sixteenth notes. Playing across the entire fretboard (still gets muddy towards fret 15, but improving). As a result, I have noticed my ability to play my current selection with the technical precision that your drills have taught. I cannot emphasize enough how grateful I am to you and to this instrument, which I believe is teaching more about life than any formal education I have ever received. Much love brother. Thank you again.

Warm down; 50% tempo as the last exercise session, before going to bed. Let the non-rem sleep phases clean up your technique.
Finger strength; same exercises, no thumb support from behind the guitar neck.

So Exercise 1 now eats up half my day because I got bored and started peeling apart other chord shapes in this same picking pattern. All the kids have started calling me Arpeggi-Joe. Thanks a lot RJ!

65 year old retiree here. Been teaching myself guitar for two years now with the help of the Internet. These finger/fret exercises are just the help I've been looking for. Excellent! Thx!!

The hardest thing for me with these were trying to figure out which fingers to play each note. 😱 But very good exercises!

I've watched this video before, but rewatching it, the first exercise when you move into triplets and 16th notes - it's amazing how clean and even your strokes are. The 16th notes sound like a delay pedal because every note is exactly the same. Fucking hats off to you my dude.

That is THE BEST exercise video ever. My guitar teacher didn't even go into this depth.

Just started guitar and have been looking for good YouTube lessons on how to memorize all the note for a couple months. This video has given me everything I’ve ever wanted. I can rest peacefully.

i've had guitars around me my whole life. my dad and oldest brother both play(ed) like gods, at least in my mind. yet i mostly only play simple chords with the songs i write, and always feel like i should be better for how long i've been playing. thanks to quarantine, i've got hella spare time on my hands and am deciding to move into the next phase of my musical life by really getting into skills / techniques with my guitar playing. it's important to remind myself that playing for a long time is one thing, but playing for a long time and practicing skill / techniques with the stated goal of improving your playing is something else entirely. thanks for these! love them already.

This is what I’m looking for! Practical exercises that don’t hinder creativity by saying, “here, just play this”. Subscribed.
