Notice how the fight before this scene he said “I always have a plan” and after he heard about the sister he had to kill, he got so traumatized that he got sick and responded “i don’t know”

Can we take a moment and talk about how Spearman noticed something was off and immediately switched from "Oh, it's this clown" to "Hey bro, you okay?"

Dude is tsundere as fuck.

0:55 this is a true friend. He only needed to see him to understand he was not fine.

Just so everyone understands this: he killed wizard boy’s older sister. THAT is why he’s sick to his stomach. Yes, I understand the context as an outsider that it was a mercy kill and she was going to die regardless. That does not matter to GS. He killed someone’s older sister, by his own hand. As someone who had to watch his own sister violently die, obviously that hits home for him.

That’s what makes his line so potent: “did you think you actually accomplished anything?”. It’s basically the same issue characters like Spider-Man deal with a lot. They don’t remember or even acknowledge the ones they saved, all they can think about is the ones they couldn’t.

I love spearman. He goes to GS with the usual riffing and teasing, but when he gets close he notices something's up, and immediately gets concerned for him, even without seeing his face at all, just his posture.

I believe the spearman and goblin slayer both became adventurers at around the same time. So I believe they’d have some history

Even the most badass guys cry from time to time

It's the proof that, deep inside, they're still human

Everyone here is talking about GS acting like this because of trauma or him feeling like he is becoming a goblin which is the very thing he is supposed to kill. This is all correct but I think some people are also forgetting how GS has changed since season 1.
Back then, GS focused purely on killing goblins regardless of the method. He didn’t pay any attention to the feelings of others or how he appeared. All he cared about was killing goblins. This is also why when the Wizard Girl begged him to kill her, he did so without hesitation. He was only seeing things logically. There was no way to save her and she just wanted the pain to stop so he put the Wizard Girl out of her misery.
It’s only through Priest Girl is when GS began to open up and think about others. He began using reckless methods less often so he doesn’t put others in danger.
Upon hearing Wizard Boy talking about losing his sister, GS started to reflect on what he did. Yes, there was no way to save Wizard Girl and trying to get her out would only prolong her agony. GS knew this, however to him, this is not an excuse. He killed someone’s sister. Becoming more open and remembering how his older sister was brutally killed by goblins was overwhelming for him.

I always hated the guy paired up with the hot mage girl who was outside the tavern in this scene but immediately after this, he invites Orcbolg to go drink and have a guy's night out.

Dude is a fuckin real one

You know Goblin Slayer is not okay when he's asked what he'll be doing tomorrow and he responds with "I don't know" instead of "killing goblins."

Really don't think this is about the mercy kill like people seem to keep repeating. This whole obsession of his started with his sister being raped and murdered by goblins. So he gets obsessed with killing them, learns how to pretty much wipe out their nests, even starts enjoying it. But then here's this wizard kid, who's sister is someone he couldn't save from goblins. I think it just really hit him that for all the gobs he's killed, for all the nests he's exterminated, nothing has actually changed. There's seemingly an endless supply of the horrid little fuckers raping and murdering to their little black hearts' content, and there's still people out there losing loved ones in the most horrible way just like it happened to him.

That's my protagonist. Manly tears cus he still has a heart underneath all that steel and edge. It is really depressing though to know he dedicated his entire life to this one cause and it hasn't really made a difference in the way he wanted.

If Wizard Boy finds out that Goblin Slayer killed his sister, he's gonna be pissed. But she asked him to kill her.

I love the reaction from the spear guy. There is something wholesome about how he goes from half jokingly making fun of Goblin slayer to be worried about him on the drop of a hat.

Goblin Slayer has to be one of the most realistic portrayals of survivors guilt and PTSD I have ever seen anywhere. He even has the blunted affect common with PTSD. Goblin slayer isn't stoic he is just so damned traumatized that he can't express emotions anywhere near normally because they are so repressed. Goblin slayer has spent the better part of half a decade at that point seeing the most vile fucked up stuff the mind of a goblin can come up with. Killing goblins daily for years on end with little to no breaks. He has saved probably hundreds of people. He has saved so many he is basically a folk hero for the people on the frontier. Called the frontiers kindest because he never turns down a quest to slay goblins no matter how small the reward. But there is also no telling how many people he wasn't able to save which I bet was much more than the ones he could save. When he mercy killed the wizard girl he showed no hesitation. How many times must he had done the same thing to others that he was to late to save to get to the point he didn't hesitate? We will never know. All of which probably weigh on him even if he doesn't show it.

Goblin slayer also knows how messed up he is. Which is why he doesn't pursue romance even though he definitely knows at least that Cowgirl has feelings for him. Because on the inside he knows he is a broken shell of a man whose whole goal in life is to make the goblins pay for what they have done, and to save others from the pain he lives with. He knows that even if he were to try to return her feelings he wouldn't be able to give her the relationship she deserves. Let alone if they were to ever have children.

So is Goblin Slayer mad at himself for mercy killing the guy’s sister? It seems like that, and considering what happened to his sister I can see why he feels ashamed.

Honestly with the hair and his class, I figured who his sister was at first introduction. Haven't read all the manga yet but hope he gets more screen time as I kinda want to see if he gets an arc.

If not then if well, definitely gave us a good moment and reminder how people still think goblins are nothing

At the moment I feel like this. Despite all the good to help people, there’s always that 1 or 2 mistakes you’ve done to make you feel like it’s meaningless

Slayer had no reason to blame himself for her death, but his reaction alone showed that death was still affecting him deep down. Because for him, he arrived a moment too late to save one more soul. He was lucky to save the young priestess, but imagine if he arrived simply a minute later
