It's funny and ironic that she answered without any hesitation considering what happened last time someone asked her that question. For those of you who aren't aware, this isn't the first time someone assumed that she was Goblin slayer's wife. During Goblin Slayer's first promotion exam he was being observed, and when the examiner asked Cow Girl if she was his wife, she got all flustered saying that she wasn't.

She's the spark of hope in his life, without her, he'll go hollow, and hunt goblins like a souless husk and probably would join the Dark Souls along with Gwyn, *plin plin plon intensifies*

He may try to stay distant from everyone, maybe to avoid feeling loss again or to better focus on killing goblins, but we all know he cares deeply for her. Goblins threatening the last part of his peaceful life he has left cracked that stoic shell in season 1. I hope season 2 breaks some more of that wall down.
