In the light novel it was described how he had trouble breathing in it and how it was heavy, which is the case for helmets especially when you are running away. Unfortunately, he was too inexperienced to realize the importance of helmets as well. And because he isn't a protagonist, no plot armor for him!

Honestly this scene reminded me of when GS was taking down the goblins at that huge tree in S1. Thanks to him wearing his helmet, he wasn’t knocked unconscious from a goblin launching rocks at him.

This also reminded me of the previous adventurers who scouted that place too. One of the party members were hit in the head from a rock, knocked unconscious and you know the rest.
