Calling it ink instead of toner is confusing some....just for future reference.
Still, so very helpful!!! I've always heard toner replacement was so difficult, so was both surprised and pleased and will definitely try it! Helps the planet too.
Thanks so much!

won't drilling cause plastic shaving to enter the cartridge and mess it up?

What will you do with the dust in the waste dust container? The most efficient one is to completely remove the toner first, clean the waste dust container and the blades, then close it and fill it.

To all of you saying that you are trying to refill your toner with ink...what??!! LOL. Laser printer cartridges do NOT use liquid ink. They use toner, a very fine powder. So saying you're trying to refill your toner with ink doesn't make any sense. Inkjet printers use liquid ink but laser printers are a whole other technology and the cartridges never run dry because toner powder is already dry.

I've used various methods from refilling to buying cheaper aftermarket cartridges and the best thing for me is to purchase similar cartridges for older model printers and just swap out the parts that are different and put in a compatible chip. For example, I own an HP Color LaserJet M476dn that uses cartridges that look nearly identical to the ones used for an older HP Color LaserJet printer I own, a CM2320dn. The only difference between the two sets of cartridges is the plates on either side holding the cartridge together. I place a rubber band around each end so that they don't fall apart and remove the two screws on each side and transfer the end plates of my spent M476dn cartridges over to the body of the CM2320dn cartridges, replace the chip and viola, I got a much cheaper, yet still genuine set of carts for my M476dn. It's obviously a hassle and some people would rather pay more than go through all that but that method works well for me and sure beats paying the ridiculous (almost criminal, imho) $300+ I would have had to pay for new cartridges. Buying the older carts costs me a little over $100 for all four, sometimes cheaper depending on what's being sold on ebay.

Refilling isn't for me...not only is it not true that it's very simple like this video claims but it's ALWAYS very messy and you really shouldn't be breathing in that ultra fine toner powder. It's so fine, it often behaves like liquid inside the container and imagine how much of that stuff that you can't see is in the air and going into your lungs. I got dizzy spells and sometimes felt as if I were going to pass out after refilling and that was with wearing a mask. It's a huge gassle and sealing the holes that you must make is surprisingly difficult. Tape does NOT cut it. You need to weld a piece of plastic over the hole to get a good seal. Tape simply won't work. It's like trying to keep water from spilling with tape. It will get all over the inside of your expensive printer and will discolor your prints. I would stay far away from refilling unless you can find a reputable place like Costco or Office Depot to do it for you.
