The advice my EDC insurer offers for after a shooting (which does appear to be sage advice) is to call the police to report that you're the victim of a crime, call for help for yourself and/or the attacker, give location and describe yourself, and then inform dispatch that you've got to call your lawyer so you're hanging up (and if you prefer, add "I'll answer any further questions as soon as my attorney gets here"), and then HANG UP AND CALL YOUR ATTORNEY.

stuff that should be covered... having worked as an officer of the law for thirty years... many times #1) crooks are under the influence that break into homes.. #2) they aren't always alone, perhaps an awaiting crook nearby in a vehicle. Having said that people who are under the influence from speed to PCP show or have enormous amounts of strength with many times running on adrenaline and the drug itself meaning that even if the person is shot... that doesn't necessarily mean that the threat has been stopped! As a general rule #1) I've taken the weapon OUT of the perpetrator's hand(s) and away from the body once making sure that this threat has been neutralized and when available have handcuffed the person and then make sure that this person isn't alone and then check vital while having someone call 911! there are some other habits that should be learned when dealing with breakins... ty..

Thank you, Kevin. This is the best summary on the topic that I've been able to find. I will do my beat ro keep it in mind and pray that I never need it.

i would add that when you see flashing lights and hear the cops showing up. that is the time to have your gun on the floor and your hands in plain view. the cops are showing up to a shooting. guy on the phone only saying " i dont know "

you dont want them to see you as a threat that needs to be put down.

Very well put. Expect to have to answer for every shot fired.

QUESTION: I have a few Qs but here's one: I'd be interested in a video about the attacker running from you, however, they are running to retrieve a weapon. Perhaps you know there's a giant machete, a gun you saw earlier in the day, etc. Perhaps there's something that could be used to hurt or kill you, and the attacker happens to be running *in the direction* of that weapon.

Then what?

I have applied for a concealed carry permit in Colorado. I will also order a small, discreet body cam. They can run for several hours (battery and recording time). I'll just start it up every time I leave the house. If I am involved in a self-defense incident, I am undecided whether to turn the recording over to the cops or say nothing and turn it over to my attorney for him to deliver a copy to the cops. Evidence in the hands of the police can mysteriously "disappear". Especially if it shows you are innocent.

My father knew a guy that owned a big pawn shop in Vegas that shot and killed a robber as the robber was exiting. He was found innocent after a few years of legal battles. I imagine it would be difficult to stop firing once a person started pulling that trigger. Sheesh.

You can move the weapon out of the immediate reach of the person that you just used force against so you can secure the scene and the weapon is no longer in play.

For the second one. Would you not move the weapon away from the threat after the incident just in case they are faking/come to and try to use it on you.

I always thought in an incident that it would be a good idea/common practice to kick the weapon away from the person just in case. But picking it up would definitely be a bad idea

Good advice
So often these types of videos do not give good advice for those involved in these incidents who will then have to be involved in the criminal Justice system
This video gives great advice and sound information

One thing my instructors told me is that after the self defense incident occurs is to call the cops and tell them theirs been a shooting at "this address" I need 2 ambulances. Then immediately hang up the phone to call your lawyer/attorney.

Question for a next What would you do? Or should you do if you come home late at night after work and notice that strangers entered your house, but your family is sleeping and they haven't noticed the situation yet?

Worse thing after? Talking to anyone without a lawyer present.

Shout "OWNED" and T-bag the body.

Another thing it might be helpful Kevin, like you said before another videos out the evidence showcasing stuff like that because he can get caught in the first responders shoes, but other than that make no statements without talking to an attorney

After my incident I had to be asked if I was OK and my anwser was do you see blood on me? Because I don't know. And at the time I wasn't sure of anything other then what had just happened.

Purchasing corpse disposal items (hacksaw, bolt cutters, pliers, acid, lye, plastic container, gloves, gas mask, etc.) all in one place. Pay in cash, purchase piecemeal in different locations. 😉
