Today I want to cover the six stages of fasting.

The six stages of fasting:
Stage 1: 8-14 hours
• Stable blood sugar levels
• Using up stored sugar and sugar in the blood
• At 10 hours—the muscles use about 50% glucose and 50% fat (you’re starting to transition to fat-burning)

Stage 2: 14-24 hours
• Starting to get into ketosis
• Fewer cravings
• More energy
• Improved mood
• Improved cognitive function

Stage 3: 24-36 hours
• Full ketosis and fat burning
• The liver is making ketones
• Decreased appetite
• Decreased ghrelin
• Increased BDNF (new brain cells)

Stage 4: 36-48 hours
• Autophagy
• Kill cancer cells
• Decreased oxidative stress
• Decreased misfolded proteins
• Increased memory

Stage 5: 48-60 hours
• Insulin sensitivity super boost
• More autophagy
• Less inflammation
• Atrophy healing
• Protein sparing

Stage 6: 60-72 hours
• Immune system regeneration
• Spike in immune stem cells
• A 2014 study demonstrated that a 72 hour fast led to a complete rejuvenation of the immune system, and people on chemotherapy had less damage

Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:

My 72 hr fast was easier to complete than my first 48, now I plan on a full four day fast for the renewal Autophagy it’s for my 75 birthday a gift to me. Thanks for your videos.

I'm 75, way way overweight (252 lbs.), 2 heart attacks, bp of 152, A1C of 8.2, WAS on statins, lisinopril, metformin...In 3 months of healthy keto, I'm off those drugs, dropped 40 lbs, A1C is now 5.9, bp is UNDER 120!! No more back pain, sluggishness, depressed mood! AND I just finished a 5 day fast! Thank you Dr. Berg!! On my way to a healthier and thinner me!!

I just completed a 100 day challenge of the 18:6 method. It was crazy after all the hunger dissipated. It was like I was on a different planet. Incredibly clear minded. Anxiety at an all time low. And I was working out 6 or 7 days a week. All high intensity workouts. Lost 30 lbs during that time as well 👍🏽

In 2006 I was 17 years old and 230lbs. I water fasted for 42 days. I lost 36 lbs and felt great the entire time. In fact, I feel my best when I'm 16+ hours without eating. It's wild that people are hypnotized into 3 meals + snacks to be healthy, and a carb loaded diet at that.

OMAD all the way but the 48hr I do regularly, and the occasional 72hr fasts make me feel like a superman.

Dr. Berg, TY for clearing up intermittent fasting for me. I'm a morbidly obese person who just started a Low Carb diet two weeks ago. I've manage to get down to two meals a day but the only way I'm able to stop eating between meals is to eat my first meal of the day at 3pm and dinner at 7pm. this gives me 20hrs without eating or snacking and no cravings. I measure Ketones with my Ketoscan Mini breathalyzer it seems to be around 15ppm almost constantly. I am a very sedate person who gets no exercise but being able to exercise is the goal I'm working towards. Your videos are helping a lot of people, keep up the good work! Liked and already a subscriber.

Haven't not eaten for a over a 10 hour period on purpose for a loooong time, unless I was hungover and had a massive meal the night before.
Now approaching 17 hours after only doing a 14 hour fast the previous day. Immediate mood improval, increased control over cravings, more energy and motivation - this is freaking nuts.
