Today, I want to answer a question someone recently asked, “how long do I have to do keto and intermittent fasting?”

The ketogenic diet is a lifelong commitment. Healthy keto with intermittent fasting will work while you do it, but the benefits will stop if you stop. You might see some awesome keto diet results, or intermittent fasting results and think it’s ok to stop. But, the long term effects of keto are so beneficial, you really don’t want to stop.

The purpose of doing the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting is for so much more than just weight loss. Doing keto long term is a way of eating to minimize health problems.

You will eventually build up your health reserve, and you will be able to go off of the program here and there. But, there are no phases of the ketogenic diet. After you reach your keto weight loss goal, instead of adding in carbs, you can add in more calories and more fat.

There are multiple incredible benefits of healthy keto, ketosis, and intermittent fasting. Ketones are a more efficient fuel that your brain and heart prefer. But, one of the biggest problems out there right now is high insulin. Healthy keto with intermittent fasting will help you reduce your insulin, which will benefit your:

• Heart
• Liver
• Brain
• Hormones
• Immune System
• Nerves
• Kidneys
• Eyes

That's spot on. Keto and intermittent fasting is not a magic pill. It is a lifestyle.

I no longer call it a diet. Keto and IF are my lifestyle. At 62 yrs young, I have not felt this alive in yrs. Dr Berg, my hero.

The word DIET means to people as temporary. Stop thinking diet and look at it as lifestyle.

Ive been doing keto and IF for years. It’s become a way of life for me. When I do eat sugar/carbs, I usually feel terrible. Best way of eating in my opinion.

What an EXCELLENT explanation Doc.

I wish my Doc would talk to his patients in the same way, rather than putting them on pills!!

I’m doing 72s with a 500 cal refeed and have been SHEDDING weight like you wouldn’t believe. Still keeping toned at the gym. This has truly been life saving for me. Started at 287 lbs, and as of this morning, I’m 218.8 lbs.

Been on IF for 4 mos now. Best decision so far for 2019. It is really a way of life but of course, when there are special events, we have to adjust then just stretch the fasting the next day.

I do not do Keto, but IF. It makes life much more uncomplicated, so I see no reason why to stop it.

I really admire people that can stay "on the plan" for 100% of the time for years. I accepted that I can't. I can do 80-90% of the time, but Italian Ice Cream in summer, my grandmothers homebaked birthday cake, pizza or Italian Pasta every couple months are just temptations I can't and don't want to say no to all the time.

These days I accept that and just take a "vacation day" or "vacation weekend" from Keto. Usally I have a carb hangover after, but it's still worth it because it was so tasty on that day and it reminds me how much better I feel in general when I stay on Keto.

I grew up in a family with 7 kids, 1 step sister, 2 half brothers, 2 brothers and a sister. There was never enough food. I was hungry most of the time. When I did Keto for the first time I was satisfied and full for the first time in my life. That is why I am on Keto and not for any other reason. Feels really great.

I've been on keto for 11 weeks now. Today I'm down 53.8 pounds. I feel better than I have in 20 years. With so much more energy and joy and laughter. If this is how keto is I don't think I want to get off of it. Ever. ✌️🐯

Yes I have had this question from friends and family regarding this. "How long do I do this". They are surprised when I tell them it is not a sticking plaster that it is a lifestyle change. For me I will never want to go back to where I was before. I cannot understand those that would want to. Most of the medical problems that are rampant today are all sugar related in some form of another. I do not want to go there. I want a Long Healthy Life. I used to think everyone wanted that but I am beginning to wonder.
