Amazing as always Tom, failover demystified video is greatly appreciated

I've used Endian Firewall for years, but one of the things that made me switch to pfSense was the simplicity of running advanced routing rules, whether that's basic routing or creating multiple failover/load balancer rules and applying each one. to a required network, host, or protocol, it has helped me a lot over the years.

I love these videos, so happy I found the channel. Waiting my Protectli 4-Port to come in January and can't wait to use these videos to set it up exactly like I want, please never stop making these videos, excellent content!

Amazing work Lawrence. I wish we more high quality msps like yourself

Can't wait to see this. I did this for 3 WAN's with over 20 VLAN's, and internal DNS. It was a policy routing nightmare with outbound NAT hybrid rules, and Ubuntu manual NETPLAN configuration for our broadcast streaming servers. Show me the errors of my ways Lawrence before I switch over to Mikrotik.

Neat topic covered. A good use case for this involves gateway groups and failover and different ISPs with different latency for use with VoIP providers. For example, fiber optic connections from an ISP may be limited on bandwidth but have very small ping times.

This is how I make YouTube and Google services work in my house. Because my primary ISP throttle bandwidth to Google then I route all the traffic to Google and YouTube through a VPN

Hello Lawrence, setting up Dual WAN Load Balancing is already easy for folks like me, we have a higher requirement which is: "How do you setup Dual Stack IPv4 & IPv6 on a Load Balancing with pfSense+?" The clients can choose whatever IPv4 & IPv6 come from the Gateway Group. The goal is to combine the strength of both (or triple) of your ISPs while still having IPv6 from one of the WANs you created (can be from WAN 1 or 2).

Nice video, would be great if another video made on how the user is notified when one of the WAN connection goes down

Lawrence how to some failover solutions allow you fail from wan 1 to wan 2 for example and keep your same wan IP address. They probably doing some magic in their data center then shoot the traffic out to the internet?

Would the steps be the same for two internal routers sharing their gateways with each other? Ie. RouterA has link to ISP1 and Router B has link to ISP2. Both routers run pfsense and FRR bgp. They share their bgp learned routes with each other.

Please do untangle tutorials as well. Untangle is much simpler than pfsense. Thanks

I have 5G & cable WAN connections, would love to learn how to use policy based routing to route all streaming traffic (netflix, hbo max etc) to cable

Very cool it works do you know how to enable Failover in case of Policy based Routing ISP downtime?

is this gateways policy and alias is also how separate browsing, downloading and gaming in your dual wan isp?

Please share how this would work with IPv6. I have proper IPv6 setup on one of my WAN's, but my backup link does not offer IPv6.

Tom, if you set the default gateway in gateway IPv4 to RoungRobin or Load Balancer I'm thinking when creating a rule, setting advanced rule gateway to anything other than default should not be needed. If it is needed then setting the default in System/Routing/Gateways is misleading.
