THANK YOU for talking about this. It’s obnoxious and narcissistic. My response has always been, “What do you do if ‘your truth’ isn’t true?”

When I hear, “my truth!” rather than, “the truth.” I switch off.

That term felt wrong from the first time I heard it. There is no “your truth” or “my truth”. There is only “the truth”!

I SO appreciate this conversation! My spouse is in mental health practice and the lackadaisical use of words like trauma, anxiety, etc. really get to him. People use Dr. Google to diagnose themselves or social media. But we have also had conversations about how our culture is so busy whether it's overscheduling the calendar or the noise of technology. As a society we don't give ourselves enough time to sit in our thoughts on any event(major or minor), to process them and when we do get quiet it scares us to death. Hence, the body keeps the score (Vander Kolk) and the body says no! (Gabor Maté) Are real truths.

Our Truth and Meaning is through our Maker and Heavenly Father

When you are someone who has learned joyful resistance, it puts a target on your back. Self-empowering puts a target on you. This is the circumstances I am currently in and I am trying to find the balance to not be in victim mentality while also validating myself for how I have been victimized while trying to keep hopeful that change is on the horizon and I hope my case sets a case law in this regard. It has been a very wild ride. Thank you for this discussion.

I always thought the phrase ‘my truth’ was a reaction to criticism. It’s normal to be criticized by someone. Certainly some criticisms are valid. Some are exaggerated, and some are wrong. Hopefully, each of us learns to take the criticisms, and use them to grow. We don’t want to be devastated to learn that we’re less than perfect. So 20 somethings started talking about their truth instead of saying ‘No, your opinion of me is wrong. I’m not like that. I’m like this.’ We each have different perspectives. I

"My truth" gives people the excuse to refuse to accept THE TRUTH that their feelings are not facts. So now, when anyone doesn't agree with someone's "truth" that other person becomes the issue. "Oh, you don't believe in the same things I believe? You're the problem! You're wrong!"
It's ridiculous and I can't even associate myself with these types of people. Live in your delusions, lll live in reality

It’s really hard in states that don’t allow parents to parent their kids through puberty, the doctor and the schools get to choose what to give our kids behind our backs and if we fight against that, then we’re the bad parent. it’s like it’s on purpose to not let our kids go through puberty. Thank you for this wonderful content.

Yes it’s a fact you have feelings
BUT
Your feelings aren’t facts.
Don’t get it confused.

Not sure there was a clear answer for how to build resilience if someone isn't beautiful or number 1 in sport, and we no longer say they're beautiful or a winner, but im curious to know what the answer might be...

I prefer the manual to “self” which is the Bible. You learn who you are in the first three chapters. How can we even have a conversation about truth without considering absolute truth, and therefore the Author of truth?

It’s frustrating they are more focused on problems than solutions, such as “ what to tell a daughter feeling defeated by the marathon” or “ it’s impossible to speak self esteem into a kid”. WHAT? Why not suggest emphasizing pride in doing your best and accomplishing a goal rather than emphasizing comparisons? How about stressing the importance of focusing on the positive over the negative?
Obviously, that’s not the point of this discussion, but they were points that were brought up as problems, but left without solutions. Psychology is interesting to discuss but discussion without application is not effective use of time or effort.

Even the word "abuse" is weaponized. Any small frustration can be labeled as abuse in states like California. I cringe every time the Ramsey team brings up financial abuse. I get there are real cases of financial abuse, but the word is going to be weaponized anytime a spouse doesn't get their way now because the definition is so broad. Literally if your wife or husband wants to get Lamborghini on her/his 30k/year salary and you tell them it's not in the budget for the family. That is financial abuse according to the ramsey team. Even though in America we don't consider financial abuse real when it comes to law. Now because the credited Ramsey team says it is real, it makes it more valid for people to be victims and use the financial abuse card and not face reality of buying a new vehicle with a small budget.

Reminds me of what Carl Sagan used to say. Humanity will only survive to the extent that it can overcome faith.

All these catch phrases are the language of a completely self serving society. Like "codependency" for example (as demonized). I think its just another thing that further isolates us. This language and ideology seems geared towards glorifying a self perpetuating mechanical state as being the ideal way to exist . This is a result of, and what will lead to even further, break down of relationships, family, communities and morality

How can John say he doesn't understand when literally all he does is bash men and give women way too much credit for their feelings a.k.a. "Their truth" John is part of the problem
