On the outside, we may think that Viserys is simply trying to put up an excuse of his grandson's looks to defend their legitimacy.
But if we see it in another way, he has already known Rhaenyra's and Laenor's situation and knows House Velaryon has already decided to accept the children as their own. And this is how they want things to go even if it seems to be an uncanny way. He's telling Alicent to cease interfering and let things run as they are now.

Just a glimps in the books the boys were more in a gray area in parentage because the Valeryons were not black and Princess Rhaenys also had brown hair. So it was continually contested who the father was because it wasn’t as obvious as the show made it out to be.

Really, Alicent? Rhaenyra's kids are just as much Targaryen as yours. There have been plenty of Targaryens who didn't have the basic Valyrian pale features, yet they were still true Targaryens and could have dragon bonds. Green Queen is green with envy.

I’m sorry but Alicent should have known that Viserys was never going to change his mind about Rhaenyra the moment their son, Aegon was born and never changed the line of succession over the years. And to be honest, Rhaenyra is a full blooded targaryen compared to the sons Viserys had with Alicent. House Targaryen has always been huge to full blood Targaryens. Rhaenyra is exactly that, a true blooded Targaryen. And yes, Rhaenyra slept with another man and those children were not full blooded. However imagine if Rhaenyra didn’t have any children with Lord Strong and remained fully loyal to her husband, no child ever came no matter how hard they tried or did the deed. If Rhaenyra had no children at all, it would be far worse. They would claim her as wombless, unable to have children with no heirs to the throne and easily ripped the Iron Throne from her.
And let us also to go show that Viserys is right when it comes down to the horses. I worked at a show/breeding horse barn. I helped out with one breeding case. Both of the horses were white & black coats, fully papered, etc. The owners could track their lineage easily. When the foal was born, the foal was chestnut brown. They didn’t breed the horses with any other before, during and after the process. Genetics does not always carry onto the next and so on. It can skip a generation or two, sometimes three before the coats are the same as the sire & dam. Look at the breeding process of the Budweiser Clydesdales. It is not as easy as it should be.
Alicent was once innocent until she got chewed down to the bone to play in a game she never asked to be a part of by her father. Daemon Targaryen was right. He was a leech and Alicent ended up becoming a leech as well. Sorry for my long comment. Thanks for uploading.

Viserys isn’t blind nor is he dumb. He knows exactly what Alicent was trying to say hence sending the dude away to speak more privately. He knows Aegon is awful, like he’s rotten deep down, while jace and Luke are just children, doing kids stuff influenced by someone older, they don’t have malice inside of them. Viserys knows those kids are not laenors, but he pretends they are because he knows what it can mean for those kids( execution). He doesn’t care those kids are Rhaes an extension of her hence an extension of aemma. He is doing inadvertently what daemon told him to do. Who gives a damn what others think, he is king what he says is the truth, so as long as he says those children are legitimate the. Everyone else’s opinion doesn’t matter.

Alicent’s bitterness is understandable in a way. It’s very obvious that her children are Harwin’s bastards. But Laenor’s homosexuality was an open secret and if Alicent could have just looked past her own envy to see that Rhaenyra needed heirs that she couldn’t get from her husband, even though Corlys had accepted them and legitimised them as Velaryons essentially without ever publicly acknowledging that they are bastards, same as Viserys had planned to do with Jacaerys when he would take the name Targaryen, then things could have played out differently.

The matter of the future of Houses Velaryon and Targaryen was also sorted when Rhaenyra and Rhaenys agreed to betroth Jacaerys and Lucerys to Baela and Rhaena. It ensured that their children would be of both Targaryen and Velaryon blood, Baela and Rhaena being Laena Velaryon’s daughters. So the bastard nature of Jace and Luke was no longer of significance. Probably was Rhaenyra’s smartest move to betroth Lucerys specifically to Rhaena… Jace would have been better matched with Helaena to avoid the Dance.

It’s those reasons why Alicent’s argument about her problem being that they are bastards is disingenuous. Yes they are bastards, but they are Targaryens. Their claim to the throne comes from their mother, not their father. Alicent’s true issue is that she is deeply envious of Rhaenyra’s ability to seek love and comfort outside her marriage, which Alicent felt she could not. Alicent’s just pissed off at her life circumstances in general. Forced to lay with a literal rotting corpse and bear his children in a loveless marriage that she never wanted. By this point Alicent’s eyes are as green as her dress, figuratively. But she didn’t realise until after Viserys died that she was angry at the wrong person. If she wanted someone to blame, she should have looked at her own father and not Rhaenyra. Which she eventually does when she rebels against Otto for the first time in an effort to protect Rhaenyra.

Ok but seriously I know the show chose to make Rhaenyra and Harwin actually happen but in the books we don’t know what Harwin looks like plus Rhaenys has black hair. Anddd I’ve witnessed genetics working weird. My sister is a blonde with blue eyes and my bil had blonde hair and blue eyes yet the kids came out with brown hair and brown eyes and ine kid even came out green eyed and red hair similar to Rhaenyra’s case surprisingly the paternity test proved bil was in fact the father. His bio mom (he was adopted by a blonde family) had brown hair and brown eyes and Her mother (Bil’s grandma) was a red head with green eyes it’s very much possible this is what happened with Rhaenyra. Her mother was an Arryn who says they don’t get their “plain features” from Aemma’s relatives or even Other ancestors. Ofc HOTD is set in a mid evil time period where they didn’t know how genetics work but this fan base really likes to jump to conclusions

People apparently missed the moment that the events take place in an analogue of medieval Europe, and not in 2023. Viserys said that if the events had taken place under the previous king, Rhaenyra would have lost only the throne with the best outcome ... Harvin's father openly says that if it were not for the king, the entire newborn family of the Realm's Delight, including herself, would be sent to the scaffold for treason to the crown and the state.
Not only was a girl appointed the heiress for the first time in a patriarchal country, she also gives birth to bastards. She continues to break all the rules of society, but the viewer again forgets that Rhaenyra was not born today and society will destroy her.

And to their own grandfather no less, and also insult his daughter on top of it. Also, Rhaenyra's children seemed relatively well-behaved and kind to me, Aemond and Aegon not so much.

If this was any other king like king Jaeherys……Rhaenyra her kids and Harwin would’ve all been executed. This scene shows how much Viserys loved Rhaenyra unlike his other kids he had with Alicent. Viserys didn’t see Alicents kids as true Targaryens like Rhaenyra just kids he had out of duty.
