for a second we saw teenage alicent and Rhaenyra

The cherry on top of this moment is Otto watching in the background. Alicent and Rhaenyra had a lovely friendship that might've lasted til death and then Otto's powerhungry ambitions to seat a Hightower on the throne ruined it all for everybody.

when Alicent grabs her wrist she runs her thumb over the scar where she cut Rhaenyra and they both look down it for a moment. That’s it’s own moment of reconciliation

The way Alicent goes to grab Rhaenyra as if she’s been looking for an opportunity to touch her kindly again just sets it off for me. So much love

The scenes with Rhaenyra tell me that all she ever really wanted was a meaningful and sincere apology and acknowledgement for all the dutiful hard work she's been doing. She hadn't been getting that from Rhaenyra until now, clearly. That combined with disowning Aegon as her son, helped her to come around and see Rhaenyra would be the better choice after all.

She feels extreme bitterness resentment and hurt, made worse by her shitty marriage. But it was never really hate. or else the scenes in this episode with Rhaenyra can't happen. She is a complex tragic villain

People question if this was genuine but you can clearly see it was. They put aside their pride for this feast and then after alicent realised how much she missed her and rhaernya misses her too. They were each other’s first friends, and in a weird way first love (platonically) they so desperately wanted to be back to how they were for a second

They would’ve remained the best of friends if not for the manipulations of Otto

I will forever look at them as “right person, wrong time” 🥺 I wish they could’ve ruled together. They truly loved each other.

There was a glimmer of what once was....it can never go back to their past friendship sadly 😢

They were right there. A friendship could've been rekindled.

0:08 You can see the unspoken “forgive me” from Alicent here when she runs her thumb over the scar on Rhaenyra’s arm that she caused. They were so close to mending things… and then Viserys had to go and kick the bucket that very night.

Viscerys had truly diverted the war. Alicent had acknowledged that Aegon wasn’t fit and even accepted that Rhaenyra would be queen. This war will come down to a prank played years ago involving a pig. No pig prank equals no toast from Aemond which equals Rhaenyra would have had no reason to leave and would have still been there when Viscerys died and could have explained the prophecy to Alicent. Instead she’s not there giving Otto time to undo everything Viscerys wanted so badly.

The next time Rhaenyra comes back to King's Landing on dragonback will be a totally different scenario but despite everything that happened, Rhaenyra still spares Alicent's life.

The best acting is how Olivia and Emma have to pretend there’s any complication to their adoration for each other.

If Alicent truly believed Rhaenyra would kill her kids, she would never reconcile with her. If Rhaenyra truly believed Alicent was abusing her father, she would never reconcile with her. It's external forces that kept them apart. These two always loved each other and they're waiting for enough reason to be friends again. Viserys gave them that reason.

Rhaenyra and Alicent would’ve remained friends, if Otto hadn’t interfered.

What saddens me the most is that, In the end it’s always been the story of a beautiful friendship torn apart.

An amazing episode, truly tragic, especially the miscommunication between Allicent and King Viserys on his deathbed at the end, about Aegon's prophecy and the prince who was promised, it was meant for Rhae, not her. The first of many tragedies. The dance of dragons has officially begun...

I love how they've written this story to be so infuriating at times, because of characters actions & decisions, not because it's written badly, but because it's written so right! Every characters motivation makes sense here, and it's okay not to pick a side, as both sides have likable and relatable qualities to them, both commit evil deeds to further their legacy, and ultimately both Rhaenyra and Alicent are tragic products of their political environment, actually you could say that about the whole damn family! Peak television storytelling. 10/10

It's very tragic, and even more so realizing that Alicent isn't necessarily evil, and along the way, we will begin to feel her great losses in the dance, and and empathize with her misery when the events unfold, and obviously she would even regret having her son kill Rhaenyra while losing all her children in the process, talk about the dying dragons and wasted armies due to the civil war. Great losses like that coming from my own hands would make me suicidal.
