I think 'rip-offs' in comic books are just fine because Marvel and DC often put their own twists on it.

How did you do a Doom Patrol video without mentioning Beast Boy?

I've been around long enough to have read Fantastic Four, Doom Patrol and X-Men from the very beginning. I actually own copies of Fantastic Four #2, X-Men #1 and that first appearance of the Doom Patrol that I bought at the local Rexall Drug store. Personally, I always felt that the Doom Patrol was a sort of clone of FF. It wasn't so much the powers or the leader, it was more the feel of both early titles. Doom Patrol felt Fantastic Four-ish. Robotman had a lot of Ben Grimm in his attitude. Negative Man - in his energy form - was drawn to look almost identical to the Human Torch. And Elastigirl was sort of like a Sue Storm who could actually do something (remember that in those early days, all Sue could do was turn invisible). Also, like the Fantastic Four, the Doom Patrol was the only other superhero group wearing more of a uniform than individual superhero costumes. And they also had a headquarters where they all lived, just like FF's Baxter Building. I never really compared the X-Men to the Doom Patrol since the X-Men (in the beginning, anyway) were first of all teenagers living in a private school. If anything, original X-Men were more Hogswart/Harry Potter than either the Fantastic Four or the Doom Patrol. Long winded, I know. But that's my opinion.

if you want to get really nitpicky, almost every character around today could be called a rip off because we build on what has come before

Stan Lee admitted that the idea of a superhero team came from the justice league.  So marvel copied dc, then dc/marvel, then marvel/dc.  The circle of life.

I'm more of a DC fan, but I'm not gonna be biased. X-Men is a great property, and I think well written and the films are absolutely fantastic and so was the 1990s cartoon.

I don't think it's a question of if it's a rip-off or not as much as it is that concepts that work real well make great stories and can be used again and again. On the other hand, one question I have, is why in the world has their never been a cartoon or live action film or TV show of Doom Patrol. Especially in the '90s. When X-Men came out, that was a major hit. Sure, DC had other shows in the '90s and they were good, but this would have been the perfect opportunity to capitalize X-Men's popularity by bringing a Doom Patrol cartoon.

Yeah, I know, people would probably think that Doom Patrol was a rip-off of X-Men then, but most people think that anyway outside of the comics community, because they don't know anything about them. Nobody knows who the Doom Patrol is, heck, everybody knows who Guardians of the Galaxy is now, but not the Doom Patrol, who to me, are far more popular.

The Doom Patrol made guest appearances in Teen Titans, and had their own animated shorts on DC Nation, but come on!! How about a film or television series. It would make a great show on AMC. Are you listening to me Warner Bros?

*Did Stan Lee Steal the Idea of the X-Men from Doom Patrol?*

Many believe that Stan Lee could have used DC's Doom Patrol as the blueprint for the X-Men. However, there is also some evidence that shows the Doom Patrol itself was inspired heavily by the Fantastic Four. So is it true that the X-Men was created by a series of rip-off after rip-off, or was this all just a crazy coincidence?

Kirby worked on both. Just sayin'. It's why Challengers of the Unknown and Fantastic Four, New Gods and The Eternals, etc, are so similar.

Most people agree that the Silver Age ends with the story arc "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" (Amazing Spider-Man 121-122). Her death marks the begin of more grittier plots in comic books.

You deserve a lot more subscribers than just 300, 000. Your channel is produced well. Almost like an actual TV show, your content is interesting and intriguing, and you have a great on screen personality.

One of my friends told me about that before I saw this video. But it is what you said but also that Teen Titans copied X-Men. So since X-Men copied Doom Patrol does that mean DC copied themselves?

I SUPPOSE rip off conspiracies make for great nerd rant, but comics companies have been ripping each other off non-stop since it all began. Do you have a clue how many versions of Superman ALONE there are? At least 5 in DC. At least 3 in Marvel. At least another 6 in various "independent titles. Just sayin... -DW

Your last point about how it "could just be a coincidence" would be far more convincing if Marvel didn't have a history of taking characters from DC... With Uxas/Thanos being the worst offenders.

Elastigirl doesn't really stretch. She just changes size.

Everyone rips off everyone. Don't try to comprehend it.
Also, I'm no DC fan, but Doom Patrol shouldn't be hated. They're the JLA except a different version. Spider-Man is feared because of JJ Jameson's campaign against him, and the X-Men because they're born different. DP being feared for being unnatural is just a plot device until people start hating on JLA.
