Correct, the nutrients or obviously going to impact your body differently.

However, when it comes strictly to weight loss, calories are in fact equal.

1, 000 calories of cheesecake or 1, 000 calories of broccoli, doesn't matter. As long as you expend more energy than you consume, you will lose weight.

Didn't know this was "argue with the doctor" hour. He's saying don't do things like CICO diets. Your diet is more beneficial to you if it actually focuses on your needs, like a fodmap or keto diet. (For losing weight though the only thing is CICO but you still have to focus on maintaining energy levels in the C you I)

Calories are calories no matter what. If you have 1 kg of steel and 1 kg of plastic balls, both weigh the same. The same is for food. 1000 calories of chocolate and 1000 calories of carrots, your body will absorb the same amount of calorie. Of course, the thermic effect of body digesting food varies depending on whether it is proteins, carbs, or fats, but after all, just counting calories is enough.
Let's take a look at the law of thermodynamics. Energy won't disappear but rather change its form. Kilocalories or kcal is a measurement of energy in food. It is also known as kilo joules. Since energy just changes it form, excess calories will become fat, and if you are in a deficit, the body will get energy from elsewhere, which is fat you already have.
It's sad we still have to explain simple things like these, you can't trick the physics and biology.

Well calories are equal, but not all nutritional value is equal.

For weight loss, calories are the key. Fewer calories mean fat loss. No getting around it. If you are not losing weight, you are eating too much.

outdated information combined with wrong information laws of thermodynamics make it to where all calories are equal also eating foods with no calories is a good way to lead to an eating disorder healthwise calories aren’t equal weight wise calories are equal

Calories must be equal, otherwise we'll have to rethink that whole "laws of thermodynamics" thing...

I understand you are talking about dietary changes that aren't necessarily directly counting the calories, but the only way someone eating at maintenance loses weight is by either expending more calories or taking in less.
