Why We Don't See Aliens in Andor's Prison

Why were there no aliens in the prison on Narkina Five? Before being sent there, Cassian was asked what his home planet was. I think it’s clear the Empire is segregating people based on their species for the type of labor they will be performing. When working on an assembly line like they do on Narkina Five, it makes sense to keep the workers biologically and physiologically consistent. Granted, it would have been nice to see an alien be sent to another prison transport. They were all human in that opening scene. I am loving Andor, but I do miss the more pulpy side of Star Wars at times while I’m watching it. We get characters like Vetch or Doctor Quadpaw here or there, but they have been more rare than usual.

“How many aliens can we get on this show?”

“Never more than twelve.”

Totally agree. Which is why Wookiees were sent to planets like Mimban(?) to work, to utilise their physical strength in their labour. Other aliens were no doubt sent elsewhere for the Empire to capitalise on their strengths.

Prisons are defined by their "bars". The hot floors would be ineffective against multiple species. Instantly lethal for some, completely inert for others.

Level one shock to Andor brought him to his knees. A level one shock to a Wookie would probably just tick him off. And then you probably would wish you had a blaster. The prisons are setup with specific species in mind.

Many of the empire’s policies led to several aliens forming the backbone of the rebellion

One word:efficiency. For the show and the prison.

I think it’s because the makers of Andor don’t want people to get distracted or perhaps they don’t feel confident and adding in a lot of aliens or they just don’t wanna bother with all the costuming and effects that it would take to put aliens on the screen and just wanna stick with humans.

I think they are trying to stick to older star wars feeling. Like the OG trilogy kind of sets up the fact that humans are the most common people around and aliens are around but less common.

I'll gladly give up hokey aliens for the overall quality we see in Andor. It far, far outshines all the other Star Wars TV series. It's a great example of fine storytelling.

I assumed all the aliens were sent to much worse prisons. Andor has a bed and clean clothes - dignities I bet the Empire wouldn't extend to non-human prisoners

I thought it was because the Empire started a policy of treating all non-humans as second class citizens and enforcing segregation in mixed populaces. This led the rebellion being heavily represented by alien species.

The empire is KNOWN to be human centric. It’s been gone over multiple times. If you’re actually a fan of the lore you wouldn’t need this explained.

That’s exactly what’s good about this show! The fact they’re still in Star Wars lore but not sticking to the same old same old scenario. I’m
Loving the pace and style that Andor produces

If kenobis budget was all alien makeup I’m happy to have fewer aliens this time round

This is one of my only complaints with the show. Aliens are essential to star wars and we've gotten very few of them

I honestly like less aliens, particularly in the prison sequence. It made it more real in my opinion.

Realistically probably less time consuming for actors with being in makeup or they wanted Andor to be more of a thriller/action film more than sci fi film

It comes down to calibration, it's far easier to maintain & supply a prison if all follow similar diets, environmental needs, & medicine than trying to accommodate multiple species at a time.

While we all know budget is the reason IRL this is actually a good explanation for in show. It’s a lot easier to design defense and suppression systems and living conditions exclusively for one race at a time.
