ADHD and dopamine: how are they connected?

Check out this quick video to learn more about the dopamine neurotransmitter, what it does, what its role is in the brain, and how it differs in the brains of those with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.) My background is in science; I have a bachelor's degree in Biology (Biomedical sciences with a minor in chemistry) and I'm working on my Master's in Genetics and Microbiology. My goal of this video is to explain the function of dopamine in the simplest terms possible. If you ever find that my videos do not describe difficult concepts in an accessible way, please let me know how I can improve! Sharing information about ADHD and making it easy to understand is very important to me.

I reward myself with activities that I know will produce dopamine(anything you enjoy is fine) for me the key is getting all the boring stuff done first, because once I start an activity that releases dopamine it’s impossible for me to go back to the boring stuff. On top of that I always end the day on a positive note!

You: "So, if you watched this all the way through, congratulations for having sustained attention!"
Me: *Already in another tab of chrome searching for a random fact in Google while still listening to the video* OOPS 😳

Love your content by the way! Thanks for the easy to follow explanation ❤️

I'm once again doing my ADHD research to gain insights, unfortunately I am seeing a lot of videos which are in my watch history.
But this one is one of the best explanations that I'm sure I'll remember for a long time.

I love that the video is short and sweet. Still did not pay attention to a part of it a couple of times because I got distracted but in general it did not overwhelm me with a bunch of information.
Thanks!

I find shortcuts, and do things the easy way. I try to stay on top of things so that they don't get too behind, and I also try not to take it all on by myself, and I reach out for help a lot.

I find my life to make more and more sense.... It's not "just ADHD." We need to be more educated about mental illnesses.

Great video. Thanks for your time. This topic has been with me my entire adult life and I'm 56 and still struggling with it. Anything I can learn I'm grateful for. Again really appreciate your thoroughness and explanation and the graphic description not just verbally explaining. Please keep it up.

5 minute video... 45 minutes later I reach the end and hear "congratulations for having sustained attention". ADHD sucks.

Great video and thanks for the content.

I found this very helpful and easy to understand. Being a short 5 min clip also helped me - I normally will start a vid/clip, distract myself and decide to save to watch at a later date because for that short moment in time I was interested. That's where it ends though and I totally lose interest in going to rewatch to saved videos because I know as soon as I go to look I'll be overwhelmed cos I have so much saved and will start contemplating which one to watch which ends up stressing me out 😂

Is there also an imbalance with high dopamine at little things though? Is that what makes the particular hyperfixations that we really enjoy and give us a lot of excitement and enjoyment is doing?
I’m undiagnosed and just trying to understand especially as I pursue and talk to drs . Would I just never have enough dopamine or does it go both ways?
