Watch: Killer whale attack caught on camera near Morocco

Video captured a pod of orca whales battering a sailboat off the coast of Morocco. Researchers say there has been an unprecedented rise in orca interaction in the region since 2020. No one has been killed in any of the recent attacks.

No, it’s not a playful behaviour, orcas understand very well what they are doing to those boats. The reason of this strange events is that they are reacting to the lack of fish caused by fishing boats that the orcas see as their enemies and competitors. Orcas are extremely intelligent and know very well what they are doing attacking and sinking boats. Just remember that they are mammals and are apex predators, they are just reacting to a phenomenon that is endangering their species.

Heard about this, most likely its passed on behavior, a mother most likely had a bad experience with a boat, and it was traumatic, and they now perceive them as a threat, and taught that to others because they are social animals and hunt together. So to these orcas boats are now seen as a predator or threat, and are dealt with accordingly.

The orcas were probably attacked by humans prior to them attacking those boats.

I imagine the whales are just gathering boat behavior for their own news broadcast at the bottom of the ocean. And also for an upcoming movie they're making to compete with the human-made "Orca" movie, about these boats going over their waters, aptly titled with a whale sound that means "Big Fat Smelly Fish." They're probably saying to themselves "Hey this thing doesn't have any teeth or fins but it passes gas more than my whole family put together."

This stems from dramatic trauma of some sort. The water is their home and we are just guest in it. When you continually enter into it with the lack of respect this is the result.

Something is definitely going on to precipitate the whales actions.

Thinking that orcas are just "playing" or "curious" is shamefully simplistic.

Cetaceans are VERY intelligent and extremely capable pack hunters.

The adults are clearly showing how to disable the boat, not "play".

We will find out a more definitive answer when someone falls into the water or a vessel actually sinks and we can observe the reactions of the orca pod.

I was at the Beach today near Boston. The water looks clear beyond the breakers, but in a 4' area near the shore, I could find hundreds of little pieces of trash and plastic it would take hours to list all of the different things. If those whales could walk upright, they would probably punch us in the face.

That orca movie came out in 1977 not 1997 - anyone can tell it’s a really old movie - way older than just 26 years
