It’s true, in the other movie when po meets Ooguey in the after life aka the spirit realm. he tells him that he saw his future witch is why he chose him in the first place. that widened expression was him seeing his destiny

I always saw that bit as Oogway feeling the Dragon Warrior’s presence more strongly coz Po wasn’t obscured by a wall

Oogway didn't pick Po on purpose, he believed that Po being there, was the universes way of telling him that Po should be the dragon warrior. Oogway then goes with the flow, understanding that he isn't in control, this is one of the main themes of the story. As Oogway said himself: there are no accidents.

edit: yeah, im wrong. but i feel that the revelation in the third movie, kind of ruins the point of the first movie. I still don't think this was planned from the first movie.

He saw a panda. He thought all the pandas were dead, but when he saw po, he realized po would be the next dragon warrior because he was a panda, and he knew pandas were masters of chi. This theory incompasses the knowledge we gained from all the movies, not just the first. 🙂
