Mustang Crank Trigger Relearn and What You Need To Know

In this tech tip video, Kenny and Tony the Tuner of Tuners Inc. talk about the importance of the infamous crank trigger relearn procedure that is required on most modern Ford Mustangs and F-150 trucks with the 5.0L Coyote engine.

When working on the transmission, clutch, flywheel and sometimes even exhaust the sensitive crank trigger sensor can get knocked around a little bit and cause issues. No worries though, the process is fairly easy with a common OBD tuning device and in just a few short minutes your Coyote will be running at optimal again.

I'm learning more about running because of a screw up I did. Forgot about installing the crank trigger wheel at the front of the engine. 🤦🏽

2016 Mustang GT....new McLeod RST clutch and aluminum this take a few tries to have it successfully relearn? I used SCT X4 and it came up successful but threw a couple misfire codes. I'm not getting 0315 code, just misfire....I just put new coil packs and plugs in to see if that was the problem....Kinda weird because the car was fine before clutch install...

This is all new to me, if I do a new clutch but dont disturb the flywheel on my son's 2017 Mustang GT do I need to do a crank relearn? Or is it anytime the MT 82 trans comes out I need a relearn?

I can't get it to do a relearn because it has the P0315 and the random misfire code, so software keeps saying is unable to perform crankrelearn. Is not a coyote is only a 2012 3.7L, the code came up after I changed the clutch and installed a new flywheel as the ring moved. Unfortunately I have tried with the RevX tuner, also tried using the HPtuner Crank relearn function and still no availability as the wont get anything done due to having those codes.

After a pull, my crank sensor went out. The car is in limp mode. I changed out the sensor with a new OEM one and tried to do a crank relearn and it failed every time. The car idles normal-ish but won’t go over 4k rpm unless I mash on the throttle, but over 4k it sounds bad. No knocking and no blue smoke. Oil pressure is good. What would my problem be?

The car still goes into gear smoothly and I’m able to sorta drive it forward and backwards, but then it stalls if I don’t rev it past 3k rpm while releasing the clutch slowly.
