I had surgery six weeks ago and you are spot on Dr. Jeremy! My surgeon explained everything in detail and made sure I understood what was going to take place and the aftercare expectations. Even when I got to the pre-op room, he went over everything again and made me very comfortable.
This is what separates a good surgeon from a great surgeon, compassion for patients and their outcomes.
Thank you, with much respect, for your posts to show that "cardiac thoracic surgeons" are not all "jerks". I smile because I work for a group of them and yes, sometimes can they be cranky, but they are excellent surgeons 😁

From having 2 Open Heart Surgeries I wish I would've found you long ago. Then again it's been 10 years ago, but now I'll know the things to ask for my next surgery.

This video caught my attention. Though I am not having heart surgery, but no less concerning to me I am having a TKR in 2 weeks. I have the best orthopedic surgeon in our city, but it is something I have never been through, so therefore it is not pleasant to think about. I have put it off for 2 years and he does not like to suggest an operation until the patient has tried other methods. I have had 3 different rounds of HA Gel shots, and it got me by. I am bone on bone with a shredded meniscus. I had to make my mind up at 67 it is time. I have asked so many questions and he has been gracious to give honest answers. I am this way with any doctor when I have concerns. In fact, one of my sisters said I'll bet your doctors hate to see you come.😄. Afterall, it is my life at stake!

Do you think “alternatives” should be considered BEFORE the preoperative visit ?

I ‘m looking for the video on what was the root cause of your MI and what changes you have made to mitigate reoccurrence ? (Where did the clot come from ? If it’s ASCVD how come you didn’t know CTA /CT screenings)? If clot was thrown from elsewhere .. where and why.

Can you comment or do a video on adrenal fatigue after open heart surgery? My 1st 8 weeks after surgery went terrific. Then for over 2 months after the first 8 weeks, it felt like a train hit me every day. I needed 2-3 naps a day. I couldn't go back to work. My hair was falling out. I felt like someone was putting drugs in my beverages. I felt like I was ready to pass out a lot. I had to be careful about driving. I went back to my cardiologist several times. I don't think he beleved me. He ran tests-stress, echo, etc. ..All were normal. Went to my gp. No answers. Finally. 9 months later I ran into a cardiologist acquaintance & asked him about it. He said it was probably adrenal fatigue. Looked up the symptoms & he was rught. I was not being a hypochondriac. The md's acted like they didnt know what to do with me. It's 10 months after my surgery. I am doing much better but still am more tired than normal but I am about 90% feeling better. Thank you! ❤

My surgeries were always explained to me as the risk and benefits were explained as well . The nurse(s) made sure to tell me the medication I was given while being prepped for that particular surgery; l appreciated my surgeons and the nurses

This is fantastic information thank you. I just had an appointment last Thursday and I did ask about risks and diagnosis, but I just assumed what the benefits would be (no pain haha). Would you ever consider doing a livestream? I would be very interested to hear more about reasons to pursue a career in medicine (even later in life) and the best ways of doing that (since it is so competitive).

Once again, thank you so much for giving more detailed information about one kind of question you should ask and I ask a lot of questions because I’ve had so many surgeries in my life. But how do you not annoy the doctor or surgeon? Because I’ve noticed some have given me the cold shoulder. All the doctors that have operated on me have all known that I have medical PTSD so they know I’m going to ask many questions and I have them all pre-written out I had of time sometimes I give to the doctor before I meet them so we can fill them out or just wait it’s just that day.. Thank you so much. I was wondering as a surgeon do you mind if a patient ask you questions like am I going to be on my back or will it be on my stomach? Are you doing the full surgery and you have assistance like a PA have I met them before? Can I meet them before the surgery occurs? Questions like lie be fully nude and why is that? Is it true that you have to have iodine basically from head to toe, so basically other questions like that especially for women that are suffering from being molested as a child or raped how do you handle like those kinds of questions? What do you do?
