Forgot your root password? No problem! Here is how to fix it in 30 seconds.

In the video I use Mint Serena 18.1, but should work fine on any other distro aswell, but I haven't tried it. Please leave a comment if it does.

The line you want to add in Grub is: rw init=/bin/bash

If you find it usefull, please subscribe, like and share.

How do I disable this (without setting a password for grub) so other users of the machine cannot exploit it?

If you screen comes up with garbled characters - STOP! don't blindly type in the commands and expect it to work.. I hosed my mint 20 bootup screens. I can still log in but I get a bunch of garbled characters and have to hit enter blindly to get to my login. I have no idea what it's telling me up to that point. On a positive note, the password I blindly typed does work when I enter "su" at the terminal.
