How to reset the ROOT PASSWORD in Kali Linux
Показать описание
This video will teach how to reset or change the root user’s password in Kali Linux. So, let’s get started.
As you might already know, this kali is the user name by which I am currently logged in to the Kali Linux. This is a normal user with only limited privileges such as working on the user’s home directory only. To run the tasks such as creating user, deleting user, running a program, and so on, we should either provide the root user’s password or log in as the root user or this user should be a sudoer.
For now, if I try logging into the system using the root user, it asks for the password. I try the password as root-‘r-o-o-t’, we get authentication failure, again I try the password as ‘t-o-o-r’, again authentication failure. Trying the random password for the root user more than this is worth useless. So, let’s learn how to reset the password.
In Kali Linux, the user kali is a sudoer user which means the user is assigned an administrative privilege. So using the user, we can perform any task using sudo in front of any command that requires superuser privilege.
So, login as the root user by typing sudo su -l root, type the password of the user kali, the password that you used when logging into the Kali box.
Now, when you are logged into the root user, you can change the password easily. Type passwd root and hit enter. Type the new password that you want to set to the root user, retype the new password, and hit enter. The password is updated successfully. Now type exit and hit enter to log out of the root user and log in again using the root user and the new password.
Now, we can log in to the root user with a new password and without using the sudo.
