This is a really nice version. One interesting thing. My HP printer/scanner worked right away. I did not have to install HPLIP. Usually I have a lot of hoops to go though to get my scanner to work. Great video DT.

Mint got me started with Linux. Nice to see they're doing well.

Don't listen to everything he says about Timeshift. You can do as many snapshots as you want. Timeshift, like Git, only stores changes. It does not copy the same files.

I haven't used Mint in ages, but congrads on the updates. It's looking a lot more modern. I think that right click verify functions a great edition too.

Nicely done. I always liked the feel of Linux Mint and keep coming back to it. Installing Vert Manager tomorrow though and going to jump into Arch and Arco and see how I like those.

I think they should change the default gray background color of applications to something mire lighter, cuz that gray color make it look old, unless you change it to dark mode.

I was copying some files from an external USB disk into my brand new installation of Mint 21.1 and noticed the queue copy, not a parallel copy that always takes all my memory in these cases... A very nice touch!

FYI: If you are using using BTRFS as your filesytem, then you can take as many snapshots as you want as often as you want and it will not take up much space, only the space you've used since your last snapshot because it is a COW (Copy-on-Write) filesystem.

This ONE of the benefits of all COW filesystems (the ultimate being ZFS).

Happy Linux'ing

I've been a long term Windows user and just tried moving to Linux for my desktop... specifically Linux Mint. The fact that I can't install something basic like Firefox Developer edition from the software manager is just ridiculous. Yes, I can install it manually by downloading the archive from Mozilla, extracting it, and then creating a symlink and shortcut. This is just insane, man. How do you folks do it? On Windows I just download and install the executable. Linux package management is so far behind.

There was not much room for improvement in a system that has been functioning so smoothly. I wonder if there are more radical refinements coming to the DE?

I see Mint often recommended for Linux beginners, but it also makes me wonder. For those who have moved on to other distros, what was it that made you switch?

I got the WinMax 2 for mainly gaming and a little notebook work and tried Linux Mint 21.1 and it had a weird USB problem, when I removed a USB device physically the USB bus would just die. It was a new computer and I wanted to try as much as I could so instead of trouble shoot it I settled on Manjaro with cinnamon for now. I think the USB bug is a Ubuntu problem because every Ubuntu based distro I played with had it but it is specific to the WinMax 2 because none of my other systems had the problem. Cinnamon is my fav desktop and the reason I donate to Linux Mint every year so I just use distros that have it. It is what I'm used to since the 90s but with some modern upgrades. Really love how they just have a 'night/day' switch now, some of the dark themes always had weird display issues but I'm sure they worked hard on the one controlled by the switch in the getting started window.

I've been daily driving Mint for 2 years now. The major issue is file/folder sync when copying files between directories. Simply impossible copying files to different directories, flashdrives, etc. Front-end says files have completed copying across, but the background sync is so slow and doesn't complete cut, copy or paste jobs properly. Happens on all my mint machines.

Immutable LMDE with OSTree and “Flatpak everything” is probably the best desktop OS for the next 5 years
They just have to make it

I use the desktop all the time and I like the icons.
