My car is being assessed right now for being rear ended where the trunk, bumper are smashed in about half a foot, both tail lights cracked. The other driver admitted fault with proof and its being claimed on his insurance after speaking with my insurance company. My car has no codes, all functions/features work and drives perfectly even at highway speeds so its all cosmetic damages, but the place I was dealing with used specific photos (from all corners of the car plus detailed ones of the damage) to give me a visual estimate at first by email. Came to $8300 and I was asked to bring the car in for in person estimate where the damages are expected to go much higher with some internal parts that are bent and broken. They said there is a good chance the car is going to be written off. The issue now is to get the same used car with the same kilometers I would be paying sales tax plus the increased costs in the used car market that happened with the cost of living increases. I estimate I will be about $4000 loss after the insurance company gives me a cheque for the fair value of the car even though its a no fault accident.

What do you do when your insurance company right away wants to right your car off, due to age and mileage? This is what my insurance is trying to do before even seeing the damage to the car.
