Dr. Grant Elliott with RehabFix Online Low Back Program:

Are core exercises the answer for your lower back pain? In this episode, I discuss the famous “McGill Big 3” exercises for core activation and spine stability. Many individuals are led to believe that their low back pain is from a “weak core” or that they need to strengthen their core to resolve these issues. I would say in about 99% of scenarios this is not true and is misleading. I never have and never will help someone fix their low back by strengthening their core as it’s just not the problem! Disc herniations, sciatica, or other lower back pain typically respond to more specific exercises and additional lifestyle/habit changes that focus on education and empowerment. If you take someone that isn’t active at all and you have them start doing core exercises and they feel relief, its’ probably because they are just starting to exercise! Not because their core was the problem. I don’t want you to be spinning round and round in the core exercise wheel wasting valuable time and money and not seeing results. Getting back to your life quickly is what matters the most and treating famous core exercises like the holy grail may not be all it’s cracked up to be. If you would like to work together on your lower back and fix it as a team, then submit an application using the link below so you and I can meet and get you the structured plan and guidance you deserve!

Dr. Stuart McGill > everyone else. Literally everyone failed me but him. I saw countless spine surgeons, physical therapists, chiropractors and each only made my pain worse. I was slated for surgery after years of lower back pain suffering from an L4/L5 disc injury. I avoided surgery thanks for Dr. Stuart McGill. His book "Back Mechanic" changed my life.

Dr. Stuart McGill clearly says that a thorough assessment is needed to find someone’s individual cause of back pain. He doesn’t just tell everyone to do the Big 3. This is exactly what he criticizes. In his opinion it is impossible to find the cause of back pain within just 10 to 15 minutes that doctors have for their back pain patients. So, he is clearly against prescribing a few exercises to patients after such a short period of time and without knowing the cause of their back pain. Dr. McGill believes everyone is unique. When I saw my McGill Master Clinician, they examined me for 3 hours! He showed me exactly what was causing my pain. He then showed me proper spine hygiene and movement hacks to help wind down the pain. Then we got into rehab and strengthening.

Dr. McGill's science-based approach is so much more than just "three exercises." I immediately began seeing relief in my lower back pain after I began implementing what I learned in his book and through his Master Clinician. I only wish I would have known about him and his research years ago!

I am telling you, when it comes to lower back pain, forget everyone on YouTube claiming to be a "Back Pain Expert Doctor." Save yourself the years of suffering I went through by following these so called "experts."
