ABOUT
_
In this video, I talk about Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and why you are your own worst enemy.

Fear is often our greatest obstacle. Fear arises from thought, thought arises from desire, desire rises and falls based on our understanding of the world, and our understanding transforms through contact with reality.

Fear - Thought - Desire - Understanding - Contact

I’m an upper limb amputee and I hide it by wearing long sleeve shirts all the time but now I feel like I just wanna wear whatever I want except that I’m scared of how others will perceive me. Since the amputation, my family raised me over-protectively and so it was there when they started buying me only long sleeve shirts and from there I grew up being afraid of what others might think if they ever saw my limb difference along with my scars. This vid has revealed to me that it is my desire to be perceived as a “normal” person but what is normal anyway?? Now I will try to be brave and wear the cool graphic t-shirts I’ve always wanted to wear. Thanks a lot and shout out to Nietzsche

The acrobat example was so relatable! I conquered my fear, quit my day job and started working as a professional magician. At 21 I was earning more than both of my parents combined!!
.
edit: the way I wrote it made it seem like it was about the money indeed and whoever tried to live out of their passion know that the pressure is huge, everyone telling you "you can't make money with art" etc etc.. so money was a huge thing for my relatives. Working with something you love is incredible, I can't imagine living any other way after that. Give it a try!

It’s crazy how much power we give people over ourselves

This strikes me to the core, straight to my soul. Very timely, too.

I think this is one of the major issues in western culture. We strive for the respect of the people around us even though they may be nothing like us. This is a sort of conformity that stifles the individuals character, twisting and warping them into a less happy productive good person.

It’s also very difficult being your own person. You have to be very aware of who you are and courageous enough to be that person, and constantly run the risk of being out of balance and becoming someone no one respects

Nietzsches work is not simple and it is incredibly nice to have you simplify it in this format where even kids can all understand and relate. Thank you for your great work.

If only life was this simple. Fear doesn't stem from desire. Trauma and generational trauma and thoughts/fears about the world are etched on your bodymind in your formative years, when your own cognition is very primal. You can't simply talk your way out of it. It requires much, much more than that.

This is a wonderful interpretation of this idea. It's interesting that the barrier for most people to actualize this way of thinking is the ability to change your mind once new information is presented in "contact". Having the ability to be flexible with your understanding of the world, I think, is a key attribute to living your best life. Knowing that you do not know it all.

This reminds me one of those quotes on internet, "No one can make you feel bad without your consent."
