I want to thank everyone for all these views, likes and comments. This video has been a great success. Steering columns aren't made of glass, they don't just break. They are from metal and they are getting weaker and weaker until they stop being functional. The same applies to the FW16's steering column which had signs of metal fatigue.

My next move is to do a frame-by-frame analysis of lap 6 to see if there is anything that indicates a potential steering failure. The point is to find if the car was doomed since lap 6 and whether Senna knew it or not!
Whoever wants to assist is most welcomed. I am open for suggestions about lap 6. Accurate ones will be mentioned in the video!

If you look at any footage of senna his head barely moves but in this corner you see him lean into the corner which is a clear indication the car is not doing what he wants it to do

Even more tragic if that steering completely failed and was loose is that sennas final thoughts were total helplessness at the control of the car. The very driver that could anticipate the smallest movements and keep unbelievable control was helpless to do anything is his last seconds. Heartbreaking...

Nice analysis. I think this is pretty spot on. You can also see Senna’s head tilt to the left just before the video cuts out, it’s almost like he’s straining, putting his whole body to the left, indicating he’s putting all his strength in trying to turn the car left. The fact it keeps going straight definitely indicates a steering failure.

"Regardless of whether the steering column caused the accident or not, there is no escape from the fact that it was a bad piece of design that should never have been allowed to get on the car." - Adrian Newey 2018.

My dad was 31 in May 94. He studied back then with a co-worker on vcr tapes the same thing. Both came to the conclusion the steering culumn broke. Between 1984 and 1997, he was a locksmith and did a lot of welding on alloy, metal etc both immediately said that somehow due to forces a welding point become weak. Something which shouldn't happen. But that's what you get when someone doesn't do a proper job

What is very clear as well is that after Roland's death on Saturday, the race should've been cancelled. Italian legislation dictates that when a death takes place at a sporting event, it should be halted & the area sealed off for examination. However, with a financial loss of $6.5-million at stake for cancelling the race, the definition of 'death' was open to interpretation.

Parts on race cars fail but to think that this was avoidable must give all those concerned nightmares knowing they contributed to his death. If Senna had survived I am sure he would have won more championships and in later life maybe would have become a great statesman for his country, sadly we will never know. I think the legacy he has left through the Senna foundation which has helped countless thousands is testament and telling about Senna the man and of none of us who were witness to his talents on TV or first hand at race tracks around the world will ever forget Senna the racing driver. I will not see another like him in my lifetime. RIP Ayrton

Between 0:38 and 0:40 you can obseve how the yellow button goes from the green line to the red line, confirming that the steering wheel was already broken

Of course it's broken...you can see how suddenly the wheel goes hard left cause the resistance from.the wheels is no longer there...it's just a loose steering wheel. Also you see his helmet move into the frame...which you don't see on any other lap

There are more responses in this 3 minute video than years and years of technical process discussions, and they have always been there for all to see.. also, this video should be seen by the Williams technical staff.. truly an epic analysis, amazing job.

The steering column snapped and it probs fell in his lap, a driver like him doesn't make mistakes. The driver error theory annoys me about this tragic accident. It's clear that the column snapped. He never stood a chance.

I was watching this GP of Imola and I clearly remember the car's camera of Senna's Williams Renault. The car was killing Ayrton Senna. No turn of the weels, no brakes, no gear Box. I remember Ayrton Senna before starting the race. I remember it all. He is my favourite f1 pilot.

Senna was the greatest f1 driver.
There will never be a f1 driver who can replace nor can stand in his shadow.
I miss him every day.
The joy he give me when i watch his races i miss.

I'm from Argentina, . My dad used to watch F1 races every Sunday and my sister and I would watch them too. Dad used to explain the races, the cars...He really liked a pilot called Nigel Ernest James Mansell but he liked Senna better. We grew fond of him, can't tell why...I know that I saw the accident live, and I can remember my mom and dad crying over this amazing guy. Now, I don't know anything about engineering and physics going on here, but to see that straight impact to a wall...I mean, that car was NOT ok from the get-go. In the documentary, you can see him before the race...it's like he knew he was going to die. Too bad, he was a legend.

This is great content. And is supporting the most basic fact: Tamburello is a high speed "curve", it is technically a straight, as every driver in the world would approach it foot down. There is no way a driver, even a bad one, would not be able to turn there unless there was a significant mechanical failure.
