The saddest day and weekend in Formula 1 history.

he knew it was coming. he said "I have a very negative feeling about driving the car and driving it on the limit and so on ... Some of that is down to the lack of electronic change. Also, the car has its own characteristics which I'm not fully confident in yet." Senna further added, "It's going to be a season with lots of accidents, and I'll risk saying that we'll be lucky if something really serious doesn't happen."

Senna was killed by a steering column failure. The rest of the theories was to protect Williams and F1. Tamburello was a curve and not a corner. Each accident before at this curve was due to a car issue and this is exactly what happened here.

Senna's broken F1 car reminded me of Robert Kubica's crash in Canada 2007. The fact that Kubica survived that horrible crash is a testament to how far safety has gone in those 13 years.

I was watching this race on live tv. What the horrible day. Formula one never would be the same again. He was the man to be followed.

You can see his helmet lean to the left in the mirror as the car veered right. I think the column broke and his head bent left drastically from him fighting the G force of the corner.

If you watch it closely at 0.25X, you will see (in his mirror and from rear of his helmet) Ayrton struggles to steer the car to curve but there's no response on where front tyres' heading. They are absolutely straight. RIP champion, we'll miss you.

00:35 é possível ver uma especie de faisca saindo da parte de trás do carro de Senna, como se o carro tivesse baixado a traseira repentinamente, e na sequencia, o carro tomar uma trajetória reta, aparentemente descontrolado.

This race had to be cancelled. Senna could have live today. My granddad was a big fan of Ayrton Senna. He watched that race. When he knew Ayrton is dead he started to cry.

No segundo 0:59 Da pra ver ele virando a cabeça no sentido de fazer a curva e o carro não obedecer. Parece que foi problema na barra de direção.

Extract from Wiki about the Italian court case against Williams...
Thus, on 13 April 2007, the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation delivered its own verdict (number 15050) stating that: -- "It has been determined that the accident was caused by a steering column failure. This failure was caused by badly designed and badly executed modifications. The responsibility for this falls on Patrick Head, culpable of omitted control". Head, however, was not arrested since the Italian statute of limitations for culpable homicide was 7 years and 6 months, and the verdict was pronounced 13 years after the accident.[34]

Totally bottomed out at 0:35 sparks everywhere, Schumacher "I saw that Senna’s car was touching the track at the back quite a lot on the lap before. It was very nervous in that corner, and he nearly lost it. Then on the next time through he did lose it. The car just touched the track with the rear skids, went a bit sideways, and then he just lost it.
Senna did 188mph through Tamburello on Lap 6 where Schumacher said "he nearly lost it" and 193mph on Lap 7 where did lose it and to make matters worse he took a faster line that was also bumpier. He was bottoming through Tamburello all practice long. However, in practice he had lighter fuel, warmer tires, and Schumacher was not pressing hard in his mirrors. Senna's setup was identical to team-mate Damon Hill's, Hill took the slower, less risky line through Tamburello to avoid the bumps, his car had no marks on the underside as a result. Tamburello was also more difficult without the active suspension the cars ran the year before. Senna spun out in Brazil (1st race of season) pushing too hard after Schumacher, whom he thought was cheating (after Mika collided w/ Senna in the next race at Aida, Japan, Senna did not go back to pits but watched the race from trackside for about 10 laps listening to see if he could hear giveaway noises of active suspension). Senna was great, but this was a man who ran others (and himself) off the track if they did not give way for him and punched people who did not give way for him (1993 season, Japan, Eddie Irvine - it got Senna a two-race band that was suspended eventually), and if he was not winning it was like a conspiracy against him.

“Ayrton has a small problem, he thinks he can’t kill himself. And I think it’s very dangerous.” - Alain Prost
