Ayrton Senna Car Crash Reconstruction - BeamNG Drive

Ayrton Senna is wildly regarded as one of the greatest racing drivers of all time. Senna has 3 world titles and 41 race wins to his name, but it is the events at the San Marino Grand Prix that the younger generation best know Senna for. This tragic weekend saw Senna suffer a fatal accident, and questions from that crash still remain today.

On the Friday before the race, Senna's protégé, Rubens Barrichello , driving for the Jordan team, clipped a curb and crashed heavily at 225 km/h at the Variante Bassa chicane.

Things got even worse on Saturday. During the second qualifying session in the afternoon, Ratzenberger crashed into the concrete wall on the outside of the Villeneuve curve at 314 km/h due to a suspected front wing failure. Senna got inside a course car and arrived on scene as Ratzenberger was taken into an ambulance.

The black cloud that hung over the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari that weekend continued once the lights turned green on race day. Pedro Lamy and JJ Lehto were involved in a serious crash when the Lotus driver slammed into the back of the stalled Benetton.

Debris flew everywhere and caused minor injuries to a police officer and eight spectators. The collision resulted in the Safety Car being deployed, driven by German Formula 3 driver Max Angelelli.

The Safety Car remained on track for five laps.

The race resumed on Lap 6, with Senna leading and Schumacher behind him in second. The next lap saw Senna's Williams leave the track in a straight line at Tamburello and crash into a section of unprotected concrete barrier.

Telemetry showed that Senna entered the corner at 309km/h, braked hard, downshifted twice and then impacted the wall at 211km/h.

The strange thing is that both Ayrton and Dale’s accidents did not look that serious. A little skid and Boyce off the barrier. Two legends in similar incidents at completely different venues. 😢

A good feat, same as other videos on your channel. But If I'm not wrong, you moved Senna's place of the crash from the Tamburello corner into the Piratella corner. The real place of his fatal crash on the 1994 circuit version was 3 corners earlier.

Just to clarify, Senna's fatal accident occurred in the Tamburello corner, not the Acqua Minerelle. The simulation you referred to was actually based on the Acqua Minerelle curve.

I saw him die also live on Portuguese Television. Portugal had Pedro Lamy racing at the time, but Ayrton, despite being Brazilian, was for me something similar to a Portuguese representative in F1 racing (and he was a champion which gave me pride). I was 12 years old. Since gratefully no family member add died to that date, I wasn't really aware/interested on what death meant (12 years old full of life, wanting to live). Ayrton's Death hit me hard...I remember not being able to sleep that night and trying to deny the fact that I wouldn't see him racing on sunday raceday from then on. Next day at school I remember not really being there, as if I was living in a parallel place...I can say that it was the first time I considered the finite side of life.
SInce then I've watched Schumacher, Hakkinen, Vettel, Hamilton, Button, Verstappen...but... Ayrton was Simply the Best!!!
