Why does everyone say that Rey won? Luke was fighting her like he didn’t give a crap. If they were using sabers Rey would have been disarmed easily. Luke held his own against Vader in ep V he barely even start training at that time.

Luke is a grandmaster, he might literally be the greatest swordsman alive at this point in time. Rey couldnt possibly have outmaneuvered him here, the lightsaber pull was her only possible move and all she could do with it was startle him. He probably still could have beaten her bare handed if he really wanted to.

Because he remembered what happened the last time he confronted a confused and angry youth(Ben Solo) so he tries a different approach with Rey. The one he should’ve with his nephew. TALKING.

That’s why the flashback follows immediately. The cycle comes full circle. For a man who claimed the legacy of the Jedi is failure, he’s given a second chance. A mini redemption.

Honestly, I love Luke and Rey’s relationship. Rey knew she had no chance, but she was so frustrated right then she didn’t care. Luke knew it too, and he just played along with her and let her sorta do what she wanted cuz he had control the whole time. But their whole “I hate you” “I love you” kinda thing is actually cute. (In a totally platonic way)

I've seen not a few comments in the Internet (and here) of people outrage because Rey "won" the fight against Luke and how that proves that Rey is Mary Sue.
Did they even watch the scene? Rey clearly lost the fight. Luke not only disarmed her but hit her multiple times (something that she isn't even able to do so). The only reason why Rey ends up on top is because she lost. She was unable to beat him so she decided that enough was enough and took the lightsaber (something that Luke's stick--no matter how good he is--would have been unable to counter). Rey loses because she's controlled by her anger.
To the point that she almost killed Luke just because she wasn't able to beat an old man.
