Fun fact: Luke dying was not scripted. Mark Hamill actually created a Force hologram and became one with the living Force, and Rian Johnson thought it was incredible and kept it in the movie.

I agree that the scene where R2 plays “you’re my only hope” Leia hologram was brilliant. Nostalgia that actually means something to not just the story but to the characters as well.

So I know this is like a year later, but according to Dave Filoni, the Darth Maul fight is actually one of the most important fights in the saga. Originally, this may not have held much weight, but it becomes clear later that Qui-Gon is one of the only Jedi who is beginning to realize the flaws of the order, and thus, feels he needs to train Anakin because he is the chosen one. Obi-Wan, though a wise Jedi, holds to the ways of the order unlike his master. Anakin's many questions of the council and the Jedi order lead him to the dark side, where if Qui-Gon was his master, his questions could have been justified and he may have remained on the light. This is why the Darth Maul fight is called the "Duel of the Fates."

If they would’ve kept the Rey’s parents are nobody she just happens to be force sensitive, I think the Rey Skywalker moment would’ve had more impact and a better message of you’re not tied to your bloodline.

"Save what we love and not fight what we hate" would've been a good arc for Finn if they gave him something about liberating the Stormtroopers and giving him a seething hatred for the first order.

There was a deleted scene that actually gave Phasma some sort of character, something about her that made her more than just “generic boba fett looking general.”
