An Inside Look Into Underground Cold War Bunker

Before Diefenbunker became a museum, it served as a nuclear fallout shelter and underground bunker during the height of the Cold War. Located outside of Ottawa, Canada, it was built by the Canadian government in 1959. At the end of the nearly 400-foot tunnel, there are 2-ton doors that lead those seeking shelter through a decontamination process to wash off any nuclear contamination. There's also a medical center, cafeteria and a game room inside the bunker. Inside Edition’s Alison Hall took a tour of the bunker.

Building this in the 60s is amazing in itself, the amount of expertise that went into it must felt like an engineering marvel at the time

This bunker hold plenty of potential if or when nuclear war is imminent in the future.

Few spot on the us, where you can avoid a nuclear war, what you have to worry about is the wind drift from those major impact points. If the mushroom cloud is bigger than your thumb 👍 held at an arm length they I'm sorry your toast

Basically got to see the equivalent of this for the Air Force at the actual nuke launch sites. My team and I often thought about what would happen if this went off and how much time would we really have and at best it would be 10 minutes. The absolute hysteria to ensue would be astronomical and if people had nuclear bunkers already in their possession they'd be inside and no one from the outside would be in them unless you were personally close to the facility. Probably one of the safest places you could have been is in the middle of nowhere United States far away from big targets like major cities and military bases and utilities facilities. Since most people couldn't afford a bunker, getting a remote job and moving out that way and storing up what you can would be the wisest choice imo.

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. Revelation 6:15‭-‬16

And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. Isaiah 2:19
