Still sounds better than the "concert" snare drum in high school.

Finally someone understands how to make the garbage can sound I thought it was just a cymbal in the snare head 💀

slam and grindcore drummers will appreciate this

Lars has been quoted stating its just putting the snares in the off position on a specific snare, and you can tell by listening that it's really a mix of a room mic with the mic on the snare, they did the entire recording of the album this way, to make a more "raw" and "garage band like" sound like when they were kids and all that other "hopefully inspire a younger audience" stuff

I thought you were trolling with the snares on the floor but it's actually spot on

"For some reason"
Truer words have never been spoken. It was so overwhelming. It wasnt a terrible album, but that snare clang overshadowed every song. Also, I cant recall a single memorable guitar solo because THERE WEREN'T ANY!!! They let Lars go nuts and suppressed Kirk Hammit.

This snare has been hated on for so long, I feel like the 2020’s will bring it back to the forefront.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually like the snare sound on st. Anger. I think it fits the aggression of the album quite well. And it’s something different, which is always refreshing

Instead of having 4 other snares, an easier way to get the sound is to REALLY crank the bottom head. It’ll give you more high when you hit it closer to the middle and when you do shots

Is it that crazy to like the St Anger snare because it sounds unique and interesting to me

By my understanding, that sound was created by playing two different drum takes, one with snares on and one with snares off, and then overlaying the two snares tracks

I mean, I have not a popular opinion, probably, but I love this song and this snare sound.

Finally someone who got that the snare strings weren't off on the album. You can clearly hear that they're on yet people are spreading misinformation for like forever. Thanks for standing out.

I beg you, do more of these! This is my favorite CD and that tone is literally it. I would watch a cover of the whole goddamn cd. ❤

Beginner drummer here, this feels like a dig on Lars.

As I do anytime someone mentions Lars.

The zoom out to the 4 snares below got me. Nice one.

I am in the minority but will die on this hill:

ST. ANGER IS METALLICA'S BEST ALBUM

The entire drum sound along with the band evokes such raw emotion and you can hear in the recording how much energy they put into it. Nothing comes close
