I am six foot eight, and I used to do part-time work transporting WWF wrestlers from New York area airports to their hotels when they were performing on cards in the tri-state area. They had a van set up for Andre that was loaded with beanbag chairs, and I would always arrive with two cases of beer in the coolers.

He was the sweetest guy you would ever want to meet, and called every one he met “boss“ to make them feel more at ease around him. I am a very big dude, but I felt tiny next to him.

I miss those rides. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was a special privilege for a young man like that to see me picking him up and smile because he remembered me from a previous trip. He remembered everything we talked about, and asked me about my mom and brother. One time we were on our way through Bridgeport to New Haven, and he remembered that I lived in Bridgeport. He asked if we could stop and meet my mother.

My brother was livid when he realized he’d missed Andre so the next time I drove Andre I brought him with me. That was fun. They hung out and talked wrestling history while I drove.

Andre was an incredible gentleman in the best possible meaning of the word. He tried to make everyone around him feel comfortable.

Until he got in the ring.

I met him a long time ago when I was a child...he was so huge he blocked the sun, it seemed...and his smile was just as bright. He was super kind, I will never forget.

Those are some true friends right there. Fulfilling his final wish. Laying him to rest the way he wanted.

Andre had an appreciation for his farm animals because they didn’t look at him with shock and surprise.

My mom and her friend met him when he was picking up kegs of beer in south florida. She told me if there ever were giants, he was one of them. She told me he was the sweetest man she ever met and so gentle when taking pictures with them, she couldnt believe it. My mom used to cry every time she told the story (mom is 5'4" so imagine how massive he looked to her)

I met him in a bar and he was holding a pitcher of beer and it looked like he was just holding a cup.

They Say He Truely was Considered to Be The Gentle Giant. As for Me I Can STILL Recall many of the Occasions in which I Saw Him Act, or When He Wrestled. RIP Andre. You were Adored.

Rest in Peace, Gentle Giant... 😢 I've always loved watching Andre, no matter what it was whether a wrestling match, movie, or interviews with those who knew him. He was very beloved.

My late brother met him whilst on holiday in the States and saw him wrestling match against the Undertaker in 1991. A true gentleman and MWC too very nice guy. I inherited his and the Undertakers autographs and a photo of bro with them both. Will cherish them forever.

I was stationed in Okinawa in the late 70s. I was at the airport as a company driver to pick up an officer. Andre got off the plane and was immediately encircled by Japanese people. He stood nearly twice as tall as anyone around him. It was a sight to see.
