He was beloved because the size of this his heart matched the rest of him. I have read story after story about what a kind, generous, and loving person he was.

No one mentioned it was his father's funeral that set the heart attack in motion.

There’s something about huge athletes that are just the most down to earth, humble souls that give back so much

Andrea was an original. I love that he just lived his life how he wanted and not let his disease control his life. That is how i live my life, I'm in my 50s and have never been to a doctor. If I'm going to get sick and die, i don't want to know until it's to late to worry about it.

I met him when we were on a flight from Orlando to Montreal in 1973 and I was seated a couple rows behind him and his wrestling partner at the time, Edward Carpentier. I was 8 years old and mesmerized!!

I hope that wherever he is he's just Andre now.

I figured that Andre refused treatment because he figured that if God made him that way, he would not interrupt that. Some people have a misperception that however someone is born is God’s will. We live in a very imperfect world and sometimes we need adjustments made where necessary to save our lives. Some parents think that if they have co-joined twins that it’s God’s will and refuse to have them separated.

Bottom line, Andre’s wish needed to be respected, but I believe that he had a misunderstanding of what God wanted, but other people feel differently about that as well.

Andre knew in his early 20s that he wouldn't live much past 40 if he didn't get treated for his acromegaly. He essentially chose fame over his getting treated for his medical condition. perhaps he thought he wouldn't be able to wrestle again or make the kind of money he would continue making if he had the surgery to correct and cure his acromegaly.
but in addition to not having the surgery to treat his acromegaly, you can't say that neglecting his health also didn't hasen his demise...the many never brushed his teeth as an adult. ate and drank on a daily basis what ten ordinary men would consume! that alone would shorten anyone's lifespan..
so phtschologically he tells himself that he was destined to go down a certain path and if you lie to yourself long enough over the years you believe it to be the truth..and we all do this to one extent or another and to varying degrees. what a person thinks in his heart so he is..
he was in constant pain all the time..when you eat and drink what the next ten ordinary men combined consume on a daily basis and then you don't take care of your grooming on a daily basis and go 20 plus years without brushing your teeth and drink gallons or alcohol nightly...I would say and I think anyone from. a logical objective point of view say that the man didn't take care of himself responsibly and while he could have gotten the surgery to fix his acromegaly decided to ignore it instead..treating his medical condition as incurable instead of treatable which gave him the mindset to do whatever he wanted regardless of personal consequences.
he made his choices which cut his lifespan in half..I think the money and fame and everything that comes with that was too much a temptation for him to walk away from... and perhaps he really thought that if he had the acromegaly surgery he would have lost all that fame..
his size was his lottery ticket when Vince Sr discovered him. having the surgery might have changed all of that for Andre.

I met Andre" back in the early 80's at a house party in San Juan Capistrano, Ca. He was somebody that definitely like to party.

Andre was a GREAT man! Any woman (decent woman) would see this in no time, and be honored to become, "Mrs Giant." I'll never forget the day in 1993 when a neighborhood friend said, "Andre the Giant died!", and a part of me died that day as well. Andre, this is the size you are SUPPOSED to be, and I'll see you on the other side.

When I was living in Boston, "tagging" was popular with the art student/punk crowd. Someone was stenciling images of Andre everywhere.

Most of us don’t know when that fateful day will come. Might as well enjoy life.

Maybe it is time that we all started accepting our own mortality? Maybe it is better than all of these quack doctors, pills, and treatments that cause us financial loss and endless suffering and aggravation?
