For mechanics like you, who show us step by step instructions on how to fix our cars, we can definitely save money. Thank you Scotty for your honesty and knowledge!!

If you are totally new to mechanical work then you should start simple with things like oil changes, spark plugs, fan belts ect..
Then just move up to harder things to fix and adding to your tool collection along the way.
Succeeding in simpler tasks will give you the confidence and knowledge to take on more complex fixes.

I recently took my car to have it inspected. The mechanic asked "who did your exhaust work?, that's a really good job. He was surprised when I told him I done it myself. Fixing your own car does feel good.

My grandfather was a mechanic for 40 years and he always told me, if your paying someone else to fix something you can fix yourself, your throwing your money away.

Had the fuel pump quit on a 94 GMC Jimmy . Towed it to the dealer. They wanted $500 to replace it. Said 4-5 hours labor .

I then towed it to my house . Having NEVER changed an in tank fuel pump and just buying a repair manual I replaced it myself in 2 hours with basic tools and a cheap floor jack. The part was $70 from AutoZone. Saved $430 doing it myself.

I'm a 21 year old girl and I'm so excited to start working on my own car. The only thing I've done is topped off my oil because my '03 subaru legacy has a leak. The first two things I want to learn are how to fix an oil leak and an exhaust leak. :)

I’ve been turning a wrench since I was old enough to hold one. My dad taught me early and told me that most people wish they could be their own mechanic while most mechanics can’t wait till they don’t have to be their own mechanics anymore.

i have been fixing my own cars since the mid 80's in France - and i have never ever been for mechanical repairs apart from steering /wheel geometry. scotty tells it right . and i have learned and confirmed what i knew by watching scotties videos. top marks.

Hey Scotty! I'm an old farm kid and fix it yourself has always been a lifestyle for me and my family. Cars, plumbing, electrical, computers, the whole bit.
Yesterday my wife took her Ford Focus to the "Stealership" for a recall repair. After fixing the recall a service advisor presented her with a a list of "suggested" services that totalled over $400! Nothing on the list was necessary. For example: 80 bucks for a Friggi Fresh cabin air filter. My wife is pretty savvy and declined everything but it's sad to think how many folks can get conned into unnecessary repairs!

I normally do my own car work. I wish to thank you and a couple YouTube mechanics for helping me with stuff I didn't know how to do.
