Let's check out a budget friendly, yet very nice Squier, the Contemporary HSS Strat. With a poplar body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard and flexibly HSS pickup configuration, this might be a perfect first guitar.

Just bought a Squier Strat. I'm the definition of a beginner but I sure as hell can't wait to learn and play!!

2021 Update: sold the Squier, bought a Gretsch Acoustic. It’s been amazing, this is much more my style.

you just reviewed a guitar I own, now you're reviewing a guitar I was considering getting. It's cute how you're stalking me.

My first guitar was a squire bullet. It was a pos but it was my pos and 20 odd years later i still look back fondly on the pos.

If I saw this man in the street, there is NOTHING he could say, or do, not even set himself on fire, to convince me that he is not John Travolta

Max, just bought my first Squire. Never played one before. I'm 66 years old and I want to get back into playing guitar and learning/re-learning many of the songs I played between the ages of 12-18. Believe it or not I could do a lot of the lead style you demonstrated in this video...back then. I've alway said that even though I am starting over-ish, I don't need a Guitar Teacher, I neeed a Guitar Buddy. I found your Video site by You Tubing "Squire Guitar". You seem very knowledgable about the brand and I'm anxious to learn more and get back to where I was before (if I even can). This won't be my only guitar because as you you know whenever you ask a Guitar player how many guitars does he need, the answer is always "One more". To show you how ambitious I am, the first song I want to learn on my new Squire is "Bridge of Sighs" by Robin Trower, LOL! How's that for ambitious? And if any song will put my Squire and my little Fender Frontman 10G amp (I named him "Sparky") thru their paces, that one will! Keep playing! And, keep teaching & learning, the world needs good musicians.

My first electric guitar was a squire and I genuinely loved it and played it until the wheels fell off it... BUT... I just got a harley benton st-62 (the upgraded white one) and it walks all over squires for me and its actually cheaper I really love it

When I was 12, I got a candy-apple red Squier as my first guitar. Yes, it was the cheap one under $200 but I've had that beautiful guitar for almost 7 years and the sound was always amazing. Not as amazing as my 98 Gibson Les Paul, but amazing as my first guitar sounded when I took it to my first gigs.

I played guitar for over 50 years and I have several Squires from bullet to the standard and several in-between. All of them are good to Great guitars. The little HSS bullet that I have blew me away

Yeah Yeah you know full well that you do not have to spend $400 US on a beginner guitar these days. Many of the cheaper Squiers are fine and then there's always Harley Benton and Epiphone. These more expensive Squiers are totally gig worthy and will last for 10's of years.

Max I'm an old bass player in my 60s. I really enjoy your no nonsense approach and you get to the point in a concise and direct way. Thanks!

My first guitar was a second hand low level squire, a girlfriend at the time gave me. I played it for a few years, then bought a beautiful Jackson, put EMG's in it, and loved to show off, but also found myself overly protective of it... So when I started doing gigs and practices I went back to the Squire, I replaced the bridge pickup with a Duncan or something, and I was actually happy with the sound (Different from the Jackson) and how it felt in my hands. Since it was cheap and second hand, I wasn't worried about it getting knocked around or damaged and that actually made the guitar it's self more fun. It eventually started to fall apart and I tossed it in the trash. I miss having that guitar, I wanted to get another, but I still have the Jackson.

I went with a Epiphone II as my first guitar(13 years ago) and I loved it. Just had a set up done to it and swapped the pickups. Had a nice guitar for $140, new. The only thing I hated about it were the tuners, but I couldn't justify putting nice ones on it since I was just going to upgrade anyways eventually.

Mind you back then our only cheap options were Chinese squiers and Chinese epiphones. Now a days there's thousands of more options.

I have a Ocean Metallic Blue version of the same HSS model. It's my "first" electric guitar after I last played electric guitars back in high school almost 18 years ago. Had it for 6 months and I'm totally loving it.

I love Squier guitars. I have an Affinity Strat and a Classic Vibe Strat. Love them both and am eyeing a Classic Vibe Tele next. By the way, thanks for plugging this into a realistic amp that someone might have with this guitar. Drives me nuts when someone takes an inexpensive or mid0range guitar to do a demo, but then plugs it into some boutique, hand-wired tube amp coupled with a series of pedals that each have an individual retail value over that of the guitar itself.

I love my Squiers, but I mod most of them, only one that is still stock is my pearl white contemporary HH strat. Great guitars, and I feel like they've come a long way. Hell, Jeff Healey was a Squier guy.

I had a Contemporary Telecaster. I really liked it, but I found myself playing my other Strats more often and traded it for a 70's Vintage Modified Strat that is absolutely awesome. I have a couple Affinities, a couple SE's, a Bullet Mustang and Bullet Tele. All of these guitars I have gone through and done some upgrades or modding of some sort to include fretwork and they play fantastic. If you have the know-how (setup and fretwork) and a little money to upgrade some hardware and pickups, they're great guitars to customize and improve.
