In this video, I'm going to show you guys how to clone a file, a folder, or an entire drive using a application called Carbon Copy Cloner. It is a very straightforward and easy-to-use tool and is certainly one of the best when it comes to cloning and backing up your data.
**Note** The method outlined in this video is applicable up to macOS Catalina. It DOES NOT reliably work for macOS Big Sur (11.0) and up. Please follow the pin comment for updated guides.

Download the latest version of Carbon Copy Cloner Here: (MacOS only)

Enjoy!!!

Hey! Did you say you can or can not choose whatever format for the destination drive that you want? I Couldn’t hear there very well. I’m trying to clone a Max OS Journaled SATA drive to an APFS SSD drive. Thanks

can I create a bootable partition without formatting the entire backup disk and only by formatting the partitions I am already having in my backup disk...?

This was a good video. Is the "Create Recovery HD" option required when using the clone as a bootable drive?

Thanks for this. What's the best way to make a bootable clone on BigSur? I cloned my mac and tried to find the startup disk but I heard something like legacy should help?

I have an external 4T usb drive that have multiple volumes of clones from previous smaller drive with HFS file format. How do I setup the backup drive to accommodate the APFS from Catalina? Do I use disk utility to reclaim space from partitions then make a partition with APFS format

How do I re-store my back up ""clone"" (made using ccc on an external hd) onto a brand new internal ssd?

Hi! Just found out about CCC and this video though hehe. I was wondering if I could use CCC as a bootable / time machine solution. Meaning I want to make a carbon copy of all the mac, not just the files, so in case I need to format the HD or something happens or I even change compute I could just plug the disk and have it as I wanted. Is this possible?

Just a tip- make sure that sound level of music you add to your videos matches the sound level of your voice. I had to turn the volume down when the music started and turn it back up when you started talking.

Thank you for this. I've been using CCC for over ten years.

Quick question: my Macbook pro hard drive is 250GB...my external clone drive is the same. However, I just backed the hard drive up and it was completed, however, the clone drive has 26 fewer GB. Why is that?

Hi! I have an odd problem: I cannot get beyond the [Dry Run] function of the program which just builds a list of items to be considered for backup and completes the task as successful, but 0 KB have been transferred! ???? I have tried it over and over again and it never copies the actual files!
Edit: Oh I am on OSX Mojave 10.14.6 and the CCC version is 5.1.19

Sorry for the dumb question. Can we login to Mac OS and then clone the HDD where that os is running using carbon clone to an external drive?
