A Muslim I talked to said people who never heard about or misunderstood Islam would get to go to heaven but people who have understood and turned it down don't.

Yeah, this is not how it works. Jamal won't go to hell because he didn't convince you or anyone else. If you want to convince people that their religion is not true this is not the way to do it. They will only reaffirm their beliefs and laugh at you for not understanding their worldview.

As a Shia Muslim when my dad died my relatives insisted that I pay someone to pray all of the prayers that my dad(a non practicing muslim) didn't pray during his lifetime. The people that would pray for him wanted 5$ for each prayer which would account for 378k for the 70 years of my dad's life and if I refused then god will remain torturing my dad in hell, it is only through these prayers that he'll reach heaven. So God, the all merciful is holding my dad captive until I pay 378k. Sounds more like Al Capone to me.

It is not a sin for a Muslim if you are not convinced of his words, but the matter requires telling you about his religion, so if you are convinced, then this is good for you. If you are not convinced, you have your religion, and I have my religion
