Siege of Constantinople (1453) - How Mehmed Moved His Ships Across Land

A representation of the path that the approximately 70 ships that Sultan Mehmed II (Fatih Sultan Mehmet, aka Mehmed the Conquerer) used to move across land on the 22nd of April 1453 during the siege of Constantinople (later Istanbul/İstanbul), in order to bypass the chain blocking the entrance to the Golden Horn. By doing so the Ottomans managed to slip behind the enemy defenses whilst this move gave him the advantage of attacking the walls in a more vulnerable spot and although it didn’t do much damage, it was a big morale blow on the city’s defenders to wake up and see enemy vessels inside the Golden Horn. Adding to that, moving soldiers to this area of the walls weakened the already insufficient numbers needed to defend and repair damaged areas where the main attack was taking place.

A short animation that shows how history was rewritten, and the entire Medieval period ended in Europe. This simple but genius strategic move started a new era in Europe, resulting in the Renaissance, the conquest of "paradise" and finally, the age of enlightenment. Mehmed II was a pure war strategist and his grand vision of conquering Constantinople had far-reaching consequences, consequences he himself would never dream about. This short animation shows us how the entire history of the world changed in a matter of days. This videos are getting better and better!

If they are smart enough to chain the golden horns, We are crazy enough to move the ships on land.

What happened to the chain after the fall of the city? I've seen pictures that part of it is now in a museum but I can't find any information on how it got there

Why didn't Mehmed take the other end of the chain in Galata? It was open to attack and cut the chain. Why nobody is asking a simple question?

How long did they grad the ships on the ground?

Wrong, he didn’t build two fortresses, he only built one, the one in the Asian side was already built he merely restored it.
